Shooter: You’ve got to give credit to P.J. Fleck and his representation for scaring the University of Minnesota into a new $35 million 7 year contract

Sorry you feel that way.

In case you haven't noticed, going from the sentiment in the post Iowa game threads, I'm in the majority and you're in the minority.

Maybe it changes after Indiana and we get a complete game from players and coaches?

Either way, if everyone agreed on everything, this place would be pretty boring. It also tells me we have lots of people that are still passionate about Gopher football.
Wow....you really think people the majority of people agree with your Fleck hating ways....that is an impressive level of being oblivious to what is going on around you.....

There is lots of frustration and disappointment in the fanbase which is totally understandable....but thee are few that hate the coach as much as you do.....very very few.

No. Some people just talk more.

Hate? No.

I just realize he's a smokeshow that craves the media and has their ear.

One good year out of five. That's not even debatable, imo.

But I guess we got a bargain given Tucker's contract.

Glen Mason probably wonders what he could have received 15 years later for the same results?

As does every coach in the country.

you seem to think you have some new never thought of point when you say coaches make more now than the 90s

by the way. If we win today Fleck will have as many winning big ten seasons in these 5 mediocre years as mason had in his 10

The untalented are always jealous of talent.

You're actually hanging your hat on a likely 7-5 season?

I wish I could lower my standards that far.

I’m hanging my hat? I don’t have a hat

This has been a disappointing season for about 8 weeks and I’ve been saying it for 8 weeks.

you can be disappointed and not want to blow something up at the same time. Unintelligent people only see black and white

Exactly. We’re all disappointed with a lot of this season, but it’s just foolish to think we should start over.

With the extension, blowing it up is not an option.

We're stuck.

Even with a few disappointing losses, another season with a winning record in the B1G. Yeah, that used to happen all the time. Nobody is happy having lost to BG, Illinois and Iowa but posting winning records in the B1G is most definitely a step in the right direction. Quite a change from the years Mason feasted on the NC and floundered in the B1G, along with most of the coaches since then.

If I heard the BTN announcers correctly this is the first time we have won 4 road games since 1940! PJ is overcoming great odds to bring this program to respectability. Let that sink in!

Happy to get to 7 wins the way the season has gone.

And yes, Indiana is as bad as we thought.
And apparently you are happy to get to 4” the way most Saturdays go for you.

And yes, you are as stupid as we thought.

Posted a thread about our road success over the past few years. But we were 4-1 (5-1 if you count neutral site) on the road in 2019. So this would be the second time in 3 years that we have won 4 road games. Probably didn't happen much at all before that though.

Tough stat because for a long time only 4 road games. Would have to be unbeaten on the road

Mason's 1999 team won all four conference road games (Northwestern, Illinois, Penn State and Iowa) to finish at 4-0 in road games.

So I real quick went through seasons all the way back to 1990 and 5 road games is actually a very common number, 6 if you count neutral sites. I didn't look at who we played those years just our record on the road and the results aren't too surprising but really reinforce how good we have been of late on the road.

The only years from 1990 to 2021 where we have a record above .500 in road or neutral site games are (and honestly if I had to guess the years these are the ones I would have guessed):
2021 - 4-1 (still one or two neutral site to play)
2019 - 5-1
2003 - 5-1
1999 - 4-1

If we want to put .500 seasons on the road/neutral site then the list grows some
2020 - 2-2 road
2016 - 2-3 road, 1-0 neutral
2015 - 2-3 road, 1-0 neutral
2013 - 3-2 road, 0-1 neutral
2008 - 3-2 road, 0-1 neutral
2005 - 3-2 road, 0-1 neutral
2002 - 2-3 road, 1-0 neutral

i forget what year it switched from an 11 to 12 game schedule

Huh?

I critique Fleck, you don't like it, and it makes me a fan of other teams?

Where you come up with this crap?

And just a FYI, there's plenty others on this forum that share my view.

But you do you.
Who would you like the Gophers to hire? Who is your dream coach on 11/22/21?

I think it was before that: May have been 2000

2001 9/11 canceled some games and was maybe supposed to be 12 originally
We are both wrong. According to google it was 2006 and that makes sense as we played only 12 games in 2004 and 2005 with a bowl game.

My memory is fuzzy but I feel like there were games that technically counted as a week 0 type of game which allowed teams to get 12 games scheduled prior to 2006. For example, we played 13 games in 2003.

Great situation to be stuck in. Stability is a good thing. Program is not regressing. Realize that Ferentz has been at Iowa for 23 season and hasn't won the conference in 14 years and only won the division once since the split. He's got a top 5 program annually however with some ups and downs.

Nice effort but things like facts, figures, and reason are lost on our good buddy Boomtime. :)

Some people just like to be angry and whine. What do you call a male Karen? Chad? There are a few Chads here.

My reference to Mason was more in the vein that Minnesota is paying the HC top of the conference $$$ for middle of the conference results.

As I opined in another post, when you see an OC/DC replaced, you'll know Philip is feeling the heat.
I don't know if Coyle has connections to somebody like the MacMillan family to get help on a buyout in a few years? Fleck likely has 2-3 years to figure things out.

Except Fleck is paid in the middle of the conference. OC/DC turnover happens at a lot of schools where the coaches are not feeling any heat. There is zero heat on Fleck right now, he's been the most successful coach here in over 50 years.

But keep just making things up...
