Jerry Kill - New Mexico State

ol' jer' is a ball coach. it's who he is, it's in his blood. he turns boys into men and football is his vehicle. since 2000 the boys have been impacted at emporia state, southern illinois, northern illinois, minnesota, kansas state, rutgers, back at southern illinois, virginia tech, tcu and now potentially new mexico state. ol' jer' does this because this is his calling. he's a fix it guy. new mexico state needs fixin' and rebecca may give the green light because the boys need to be turned into men.
there it is!

That's terrible, sorry to hear that.

That does not mean we can't talk about addiction. It's exactly the same mechanism, for Kill.
I mean this in the nicest way possible, but I really think you struggle sometimes with social skills. Even if you feel it's ok to say at that moment, maybe just let it go? It's a message board but there's a real person behind Maxy's username and he's always been one of the most respectful posters on this board. You can let your argument die sometimes. It's ok. And I do think you usually mean well but just have a hard time letting things go.

Do we think there will there be any sort of tribute video for his return next year?
He seemed to have beef with Coyle and the way Tracy Clayes was fired in 2016. Not think he likes PJ very much.
They should do a highlight video of all the petty things he has said since 2017

Coach Brew is about to be unemployed, maybe he can make it back, too! Or at least do one of those video tributes.
He's the best damn TE coach in CFB. I'm sure PJ will retain him when he takes over at Florida.;)

After touting "staff continuity" through several coaching changes, it will be interesting to see if he can coax any of this old staff members back. Most are in better places than NMST.

Here is where his original 2011 Gopher football staff is now:
Tracy Claeys Defensive Coordinator - Retired
Matt Limegrover Offensive Coordinator - OL Arkansas State
Bill Miller Assistant Head Coach/Linebackers - Retired
Brian Anderson Running Backs - RB Kansas State
Jeff Phelps Defensive Line - DL Miss State
Pat Poore Wide Receivers - TE/FB/ST Southern Illinois
Rob Reeves H-Backs/Tight Ends - HC Hill-Murray HS, MN
Jay Sawvel Defensive Backs/Special Teams - DC Wyoming
Jim Zebrowski Quarterbacks - QB Kansas
Jesse Nelson Defensive Assistant - Asst Minnetonka HS, MN
Daryl Agpalsa Offensive Assistant - OL Northern Illinois
Melvin Rice Defensive QC - DB Temple
Nate Griffin Offensive QC - RB Southern Illinois

Keep in mind the last former head coach of Mn who went on to get another head job won a national title his third year at the school.

Yeah, but the "carpetbagger" left us with John "GuudieGuunst" a bowl ban and sanctions.

Going back to Warmath, are only Holtz and now Kill (as TCU interim) the only Gopher coaches to get a D1 Head Coaching job after their tenure was over? Makes sense in that they were the only 2 that left by their choice.

Warmath
Stoll
Salem
Gutekunst
Wacker
Mason
Brewster
Horton
Claeys

Just going off memory, but if I am wrong please chime in anyone.

Which is why it’s usually funny to see people saying a coach is going to leave.
This is a destination job (sometimes the destination is the funeral home

We have had like 3 coaches taken in the last 120 years of the history of the program.

holtz, fritz crisler, Clarence Spears

joe Salem coached as an assistant after
Cal still coached in Italy
George Hauser assisted for the gophers before and after his stint
Bierman left during war and came back

I'm sure this was the Killer's dream job too just like our friend Lou Holtz.

I am thankful for you.🦃

Oh, I don't know. I'd rather live in Las Cruces than almost anywhere on that list.
As far as schools go, KSU and Miss State, maybe Temple are bettter.

I don't have the vitriol toward Kill that some on this board seem to have.

my bottom line - after the Brewster experiment, Jerry Kill restored a sense of credibility to Gopher FB. he make the players go to class and brought some discipline back to the program. And his teams with Claeys and Sawvell coaching produced some of the better defensive teams to play at MN in a long time. his offenses were up and down, but had some solid RB's. And - I would maintain that Special teams were overall much better under Kill then they have been under the current staff.

Obviously, Kill did not go out on a good note. But, people are human. He could have handled it better. that doesn't change my opinion of what he brought the program as a coach.

And stating the obvious - Reusse is going to get a lot of columns out of this........
