Adrian Martinez out on Friday

Interesting to see how that plays out.

The Nebraska QB has been ruled out. Iowa gets to face their backup.

Go Huskers!
hmmmm....well on the plus side, Iowa won't really know what to expect from the backup since he has hardly played.....but this probably doesn't bode well for Nebraska's chances to win the game.

The game was removed from betting sites. Curious to see what it pops back up as re: Line. Was Huskers -3.5

From Stan's link:

Frost said that the guy that will likely get the start for Nebraska against Iowa is redshirt freshman Logan Smothers. A member of the 2020 class, Smothers picked the Huskers over a handful of SEC and ACC programs.

In the 2021 season, Smothers has played 60 snaps for Nebraska. He has dropped back 16 times to pass in those snaps and has completed 7-of-11 passes for 119 yards.
Smothers is also a threat to use his legs to get outside the pocket. He has a high rushing grade on Pro Football Focus and has carried the ball 13 times for 69 yards in five games this fall.

"He can get to the light post at the end of the street fast if challenged to a race too," Huskers247's Brian Christopherson wrote about Smothers earlier this year. "Smothers was a 10.7 to 10.8 guy in the 100 meters in high school. It's something that doesn't really get to be shown off in a green jersey when a QB is declared down when someone breathes on them in the Spring Game. On Saturday, there was a truer glimpse of the running threat he can present.

Yep, it was the Iowa game that cost us. Even if we had won both (Iowa, Illinois) the Wisconsin game would still be a must win.
Yep, Wisconsin game never dropped in terms of importance for us to have a shot at the West. Iowa loss just took control out of our hands and made it so we need help in addition to a win over Wisconsin to win the division. Going to be a crazy weekend, starting with that Iowa/Nebraska game on Friday night.

Hard to say if this is bad news or good. Martinez makes things happen, but frequently it’s for the other team.
If you ask BTN, they think he's the sole reason that Nebraska is so tough in their opinion!

I tend to believe this actually.

half the Nebraska fan base has wanted a new QB for two years. Last year they got one a little bit and it was a disaster. And that guy isn’t even there anymore.

I gotta believe the backup QB is worse than the starter in most cases. In very few cases I think they are pretty equal.

Sometimes a new quarterback can be worse but make the team around him play better due to the change in vibe: let’s hope that is the case. Like, I think Padilla is just as bad or worse than petras but I think the wideouts played better than usual for him the first game. Then Iowa looked awful on offense again against Illinois

This whole situation has to be a little scary for the Iowa defensive staff. You have a Huskers team with literally nothing to lose, playing at home with a QB that you will have very little tape on. If Nebraska wants to go off book and throw something totally new at a team this is the week to do it.

I mean at this point with a guy like AM you know what is coming. With a backup, for one week, everything is on the table.

Martinez had to be closing in on some all time career losses as a starter record. So many losses the last four year with him under center.

If Iowa and Minnesota win, Iowa wins the vision. So quite the opposite.

The way we beat wisconsin but they go anyways is if Purdue loses to Indiana

Correct. Just makes it so that the outcome of our game no longer determines who wins the West.
Are you really that stubborn that you can't let go of this stupid argument from another thread? Not sure why it is so difficult to admit that our game determines who wins the West because there is no way to know who won the division until our game goes final.

Would it be easier for you if people said the winner of the West will be determined after our game with Wisconsin is complete? You are way too hung up on this distinction and need to let it go.

If Minnesota fans didn't have bad luck we'd have none at all. Nebraska had a legit shot of doing us a solid and knocking off Iowa... But oh, I'm sorry their 5 year starter at QB is unavailable. Good grief man. No shot. A kid making his first career start against Iowa? Pack a lunch.

This was literally one of the dumbest things I'veever seen argued on this board... And I've seen a lot.

Start of the day with Nebraska -3.5 we had a 17.5% chance of winning division now it's down to 13.7%. And then adjusted slightly higher since the lines aren't even each way so Vegas makes money
