I used to work with a guy that was a diehard Nebraska fan. He was realistic about the current status at the time but he also firmly believed it was just a matter of time until they got back to the top again.

Definitely part of the reason. You think Gopher fans would like Nebraska if Fleck was 0-4 against them like he is with Ferentz? Or 1-3 like he is against Chryst?

Have the Gopher fans don't even remember when Iowa fans stole our goal posts and made us the laughingstock of ESPN highlights.

Nope, I don't think the W/L record has much to do with it at all. I hate Badger fans way worse than I hate Ohio State fans, or Michigan fans, etc. I think most Gopher fans have memories much further back than the Fleck years.

Yeah, exactly. You're posting another reason why Gopher fans SHOULD treat Nebraska fans more cordial than Iowa fans. They didn't do steal our goal posts, Iowa fans did. You know the ones you were saying we should hate as much as we hate Iowa?

I hate Iowa fans and Wisconsin fans more and I always will. I did when I was in college (and we had success against Iowa) and I will regardless of how we do against Nebraska.

Met him at a tailgate in Nebraska years ago, met quite a few good Minnesota fans as they were invited to our tailgate, our only complaint was you guys ate all of our homemade chocolate chip cookies. Wisconsin and Iowa fans suck but that just me preaching to the choir.

I haven’t seen him in a long time…I thought something might have happened health wise? I did enjoy his posts. Hope you have an enjoyable experience at the game and you are treated well. Friendly banter is fine, people crossing the line and being pricks I despise (had it too many times with me vs. Becky

I think the snooty attitude about supposed to be a great program comes from some of their media folks.

I never really hear it from actual fans. They seem way more humble just want to have a good time for the most part.
 

As a general rule Husker fans are considerate and well mannered. This behavior comes from their 90’s success. It is easy to be magnanimous after an 83-14 win.
This behavior is and will change as they continue to be a “Big” bottom feeder. I have noticed that younger fans try to hang on to their history but without actually seeing success have become closer to drunken Bager or Hawkeye fans.

A loss on Saturday will allow Gopher fans to see this transformation.

Yeah someone else corrected me and it still hurts just as bad. I had to use my fall back excuse of being drunk. At least 83-14 sounds like the Gophs were in it until the end. Or, maybe not. Maybe I'll just get drunk and make up more scores. Regardless of Saturday's actual outcome, Minnesota wins 38-10.
 


I've lived in Nebraska for 12 years, still root for the Gophers but follow the Huskers closely. As a Gopher fan I'm really nervous & I'm honestly expecting us to lose. It's frustrating because I genuinely believe Minnesota is a much better program because PJ isn't a smug coach obsessed with the 90s. But I just think they have better athletes. Imagine Adrian Martinez against MSM is open space... Yuck. I think even Frost is smart enough to exploit our defenses weakness. & Combine that with whatever the heck our offense is doing this year.. ew. All of my in-laws are Husker fans so I'm expecting a long week ahead... But as always.. RTB

Well, at least the Gophers can claim a win or two in NCCA Tournament games. Even Northwestern has accomplished that, while NU is looking for win #1.

Have not seen him in awhile posting. Formo was always more active on the basketball board, like others said seemed like he posted about health issues with him or his wife. He was a good poster for a long time even going pretty far back. Try PM to Gopherlady, the owner of the site, maybe she might know about Formo. I have been poster for a long time, but haven't seen a post by that handle in quite a bit. Still hope to make it to Lincoln on my list. Nebraska fans never seem as rude as Hawk, Iowa fans. You will probably hear the who hates Iowa cheer, all Husker fans are welcome to join on in that one before the game. Seems like this Nebraska -Minnesota broken chair thing is a good spirited rivalry. Go Gophers.

I am like an old elephant with a long memory. That lost is as close to having a concussion from the sonic boom of a total beat down.

I get the satisfaction that we are in a new era where we re-establish our long historical rivalry with Nebraska. The Gophers will have the opportunity to erase the sting of that shellacking by beating Nebraska more often in the modern era

Gosh, I'm now worried again about another blowout by Nebraska this Saturday. I hope it is a Gophers' win. The media cabal seem to think the Gophers will be de-tasseled.

Then, we'd go through the cycle of pain again. Wash, rinse, then repeat. 😨

I could see us coming out on Saturday and dominating, just as much as I could see us come out struggling and getting blown out. My gut says it will be a fairly close game which could swing either direction. If it is a tight game that bodes well for us because I do believe Fleck's teams are mentally stronger than Frost's and less prone to meltdown in key situations.

Big game for both teams but a massive game for Nebraska if they want to have any hope of going bowling for the first time in a while.

PJ Fleck is bringing up the Gopher football history for a reason. The Gophers have a rich football tradition. PJ Fleck saying in his first press conference about his vision was reassuring. He is aiming high.
