Meatsauce on KFAN

There is another sports radio station to listen to, so you have a choice.
I don't live in Minnesota anymore and you always have a choice. People are choosing options off the AM/FM dial.

But yep, this is a message board. People sometimes share their opinions about things on message boards. KFAN fans are pretty damn protective about your show.

The goal is hitting the masses and they do. I can listen to the show and correlate each of the "characters" to friends or people in my real life. Next time you're sitting around with your friends having a conversation, you will be able to make the connection. It's real life.

I only listen to Gopher talk and really can't stand x's and o's of any other team in town. I enjoy the non sports discussions.
You hang out with people like Meatsauce and PA?

If they talk more sports on KFAN I quit listening, I like that its just a bit of sports and lots of other stuff. Can't stand PA because its all purple Kool aid all the time.
Yeah, I realize a lot of people like them. For me, if they aren't talking about sports, I can't imagine caring what Meatsauce or Chris Hawkey think about anything. But people do. People also watched the Masked Singer. To each their own.

I think the show works because MN is a pretty provincial place and national shows have never done well here.

Howard Stern...(not sports but definitely characters)

Also, aren't guys like Stephen A Smith and Skip Bayless basically characters?
MSP is the one market that Howard Stern couldn't crack. It didn't help his case that his show on Rock 100.3 was going up against both KQ at it's peak and WCCO before Boone and Erickson retired.

It's because we are the most provincial place I've ever been. I am not ripping on Minnesotans, I am the exact same way, but we really are. I can't tell you how many times I've heard about Mallrats being filmed here.

Good point. Though some of the Crew's distain for the Gophers comes from their "You know we're the VIKINGS station right?" Bet if they forget that, management will remind them.

Probably like anyone over the last 50 years, alive or dead, you can find him online somewhere. Much like all the present radio programs and newspapers. Stuff that people don't listen to or read, but know about.

Funny huh?
I never thought they were antiGophers, just not as into them as the Vikings.

I’ve noticed the Meatsauce schtick is to take the anti-Gopher stance at every turn. I don’t have a problem when any writer or “personality” says something critical of the Gophers if they can back it with objective opinion or have proven to be balanced about the program in the past. That isn’t Meatsauce. He is one of those guys (like I often see from many Viking fans on Twitter) that act like the Gophers are some sort of threat. I don’t know what it is. Sometimes I wonder if it has something to do with people that haven’t been to college. The whole concept of college sports is distasteful to them, and locally taking it out on the Gophers makes them somehow feel more relevant.
To wit, he "hates" PJ because he leads his team out of the tunnel on game day. Umm, who wants to tell him?

I've been listening to KFAN since 1995. Back when the Fabulous Sports Babe was on in the afternoons.

I no longer turn on KFAN before Noon, and I'm guessing the station is doing just fine without me.

Too many voices on the morning show, for me.

PA is too much of a homer- hear his botched call yesterday. His lack of objectivity works for those wearing purple & gold glasses. Not me.

It feels like Meatsauce was a Dark Star idea after watching Trading Places. Guessing he bet some Canterbury buddy he could get a kid with no experience on KFAN. It appears Dark won that bet as people obviously enjoy Meatsauce.

I'm a solid listener from 12-6:30pm. I appreciate that Common and Barreiro don't talk 100% sports. If you listen long enough you'll like Common at first, then dislike him, then back to liking him. Dan Barreiro is elite. I love his guests. Lou Nanne is priceless with his Gopher love/knowledge/stories. And it's great to hear Pete Najarian getting more air time.

Has anyone been following Grimm's visits to KFAN where they strategize which 1980's rock lyric that Grimm is going to be worked into the play by play?
Last week it was "dirty deeds done dirt cheap" and I think maybe "in the still of the night" was the OSU game. Pretty funny how Grimmer can work those in so seamlessly.

So 80% of what pumpkinhead says is made up trash….does that mean his ads for kinetico or pizza are also made up trash?

KFAN once laid off a former NFL player while keeping something named Meatsauce. That tells you everything you need to know about their credibility.

I turned the radio on for the 2nd half. On one play Dylan Wright slipped and lost his footing and Grimm said something like "just like the late, great Roger Miller said...you can't rollerskate in a buffalo herd". It seemed like he was just waiting to use that line somewhere, but I laughed anyway. That one is before the 80s but was that one of the drops?

FWIW...Best line from that song is still "you can't change film with a kid on your back".
Roger Miller...a staple of all K-tel Goofy Greats and Wacky Westerns records.

I think the Roger Miller was a secondary "drop" that he made that game.
I only know Roger Miller as the guy that sang the songs in Disney's Robin Hood movie.

You've got a 30% chance of hearing sports talk when you turn on the station at any moment. Just call it something else and stop pretending to be a sports station. It's hilarious that they call themselves a sports station. Absolutely hilarious.

I've heard bits and pieces of the KFAN morning show. Can't stand it. guys laughing at their own jokes.

for Gopher and college FB fans, Glen Mason does a weekly segment on Barreiro, and he's a lot of fun. They talk Gophers and B1G FB. Usually on Wednesdays.

Like it not, KFAN is the Vikings station. Gaard is Barreiro's side-kick and he talks some Gopher stuff, but you can tell Barreiro knows almost nothing about Gopher sports. On Sundays, Gaard does a morning show where they focus on Gopher Sports, but it runs at 8:00am and I usually don't get up that early on Sundays. After the Vikings season is over, Gaard does a show from 11:00 to 1:00 and he gets Ryan James and Ryan Burns on as guests.

I do listen to some of the podcasts that Mackey and Judd do on Skor North. they talk some Gophers, but their main focus is on the pro teams, especially the Vikings. Doogie is on twice a week with his "scoops." He does talk about Gopher hoops now and then.

I can't put up with Meatsauce being an idiot so I don't listen.

People say it's a bit.

It's like saying, "No the turtle isn't going full speed."

"No I know the turtle isn't going full speed, but in the end he's still slow."

You nailed it on your Dark Star take.

They are kicking ass, so it tells me they are smarter than you
I never expected such an Ayn Rand-like take from someone who cries about rich people so much on the OTB.

They do well. I think most people who are ripping them realize they are popular (kind of like that show where they pick zits is popular) but think they could be even more popular if didn't employ people like Meatsauce. We could certainly be wrong and we are just overestimating the general public (probably the most likely).

I dont mind the morning show. It's an easy listen for the morning drive. The 3 work well together and the show is off when one of them is gone. Zack on the other hand...... feels like he is trying to be another Meatsauce and thinks hes good when hes not.

I like some of the regular bits:

Duel of the Decades (pitting songs or other pop culture items from 2 different years or decades against each other)

In the Box (Where they bet on how many trivia questions someone - usually someone from the local Clear Channel family - can answer)

Mr Z's movie preview on Friday

The Initials Game on Friday

Rumor is Meatball doesn't like him because he's trying to steal Meatball's bit.

Wow, you read into that a lot. Not my show, as I rarely listen to morning radio. Correct, this is a message board and people sometimes share their opinions. Your point being...?

Well, maybe that shouldn't have been geared towards you, but a lot of KFAN fans tell you to simply change the dial. My point was that it is entirely reasonable to still hold an opinion on something that is completely avoidable and to post that opinion on a message board. For example, if there was a thread on McDonalds, it's completely reasonable for someone to post "I hate McDonalds" even though they have the choice to not eat there.

Maybe that's not what you were getting at with KFAN and if so my reply to you was aimed in the wrong direction (apologies), but my main point was that regardless of whether or not I choose to change the dial, I can still have an opinion on KFAN and a dedicated thread to the subject on a message board is perfectly reasonable place to share that opinion.
