All Things 2021 Gophers in the NFL Thread

I am very disappointed by the lack of Tyler Johnson in this opener.
Yes, but who does he replace? If Brown gets suspended for something or Evans/Godwin get injured, then TJ will get more run.

Got to watch most of it.

One play with Tyler in where the ball was thrown 3 yards behind him...

I think the announcer said "Intended for Tyler Johnson"...

Miscommunication or bad route?...

At the end of last season people were so sure he wouldn't be WR4 (and behind Gronk) again this year...

I hope he gets traded. I think he’s WR5 on a stacked Bucs team, and he’s receiving option number 6 behind Gronk. He is too talented for that. I don’t want to wish injuries or suspensions on those ahead of him, so getting traded to a less talented roster is the next best option in my mind.

Think it was more a case of people assuming that Evans, Godwin, and Brown all wouldn't be back. The Bucs are loaded at WR so makes sense that TJ is stuck a bit on the depth chart right now. Important part is that he is still on the main roster so that is a good sign at least.

He really feels a lot like Stefon Diggs to me. He got drafted late, really came in under the radar. But I don't think Johnson is getting enough reps to improve his game.

Yup. Sucks because he has the talent and shows it when he's on the field. I wonder if any other teams with holes at WR have enquired about him?

It's too bad the Vikes were total b-holes and passed.

This. I figured Godwin was gone. They can't afford to give him a big deal after already giving one to Evans. They ended up franchise tagging him. Think the brass there are looking at this as a....let's go win one more right now while we have the pieces plan.

I have no doubt Johnson is being told next year is his year. Unfortunately it may mean he is without Brady and without the enhancements to his game that experience will bring.

Based on the discourse, it's unfortunate the one play he got was not executed.

As for the game itself, it was very entertaining.

AND...for most of the night the action was no where near Mr. Winfield's place on the field. He did get burned for a short-field TD but it was just a very well run route and accurate QB shot. Also, he was close to a very Winfieldesque INT in the game too. Bottom line, he's a starter that plays every defensive snap. Pretty cool.

Has to be. If a guy can't play....I can see him not seeing the field. To draft him and then stack three pro-bowl caliber receivers in front of him is kind of a crappy move. I'd think that if after this year he still doesn't see the field, that he'll choose to go elsewhere after his rookie contract is up. Why re-sign with an organization that wasted three years of your prime physical peak because they decided to bring in A Brown.

Diggs is one of the highest rated high school recruits of all time. He wasn’t under the radar.

Maxx Williams is having his best receiving game (NFL) in memory. Four catches for 50 yards so far.

And TJ caught his first pass of the year for five yards.
