All Things Joshua Ola-Joseph Recruitment Thread (Class of 2022; Osseo HS; Gophers Offered)

I've never seen JOJ play. Not a single second. Hard to form an opinion on him for me because like I said--never seen him play. I know some coaches at Osseo who are big fans, obviously. I may try to attend some more high school games this year and would make seeing Osseo a point of emphasis.

Hopefully he lives up to the coaches expectations. Always happy to add an athlete who wants to be here. Looks good for BJo to add his third local commit.

It’s great Josh will be a Gopher! That gives us three nice building blocks.
Be nice to add an exciting point guard to this group this fall. Sounds like we may add two more guys total this fall? For a total of five. Anybody see more guys than 5 Coming on board this fall?

It's so interesting to see who replies to which topics on this board. On the topic of "Which team is clearly the worst in the B1G next year," you have pretty much all the sky is falling posters except for a few who are still bothering to try to convince them to wait and see how things turn out. Pretty much none of those posters will be replying on this topic, unless it's to say the guys we have coming in 2022 aren't very highly rated according to one of the ratings sites. We haven't even gotten to September 1st and we have (soon to be) three local recruits who we wanted to get.

And I still say that we will be better next year than 90% of the people on this board think they will be. To be clear....I'm not saying they will get a NCAA or NIT Tournament bid, but they won't be historically bad either.

I hope the Gophers get good news tomorrow....
For me it is more nuanced than that. I enjoy the different opinions. I am excited and hopeful of seeing a well coached team that develops under appreciated recruits over time. Could care less about the record this year, only about year to year improvement, high character, strong fundamentals and top 3 conference defense.

This hire was (and to some extent) still is a head scratcher to me. We don't need to debate it any more. I'm still not overly excited.. but I am liking the 22 recruiting results so far.. Product on the court is yet to be seen...

When you say next year ... are you talking 2021-22 or 2022-23?

As I've said before, I'm looking forward to better fundamentals, a non ball dominant point guard, consistent ball movement and a much better approach and effort on defense. I don't see a top 3 defense because they won't have the overall talent and the shot blocking. Specifically, I'm hoping not to see twenty uncontested 3's a game.

In terms of "character," I'm not ready to label the guys Johnson has brought in and will bring in as being fine human beings. I'm not going to label the guys who left as bad folks. I've never met any of them and probably never will. The key is can Johnson get his guys to do what he wants them to do to the best of their abilities. We have no idea.

This is shaping up to be a good class. Ola-Joseph really reminds me of David Roddy when he was at Breck, this could be a very good pick up. In the Tubby and Pitino years there were always guys like Sam Dower, Nate Wolters, Mike Muscula, JP Macura, David Roddy, Will Tschetter, Steven Crowl, Stef Mitchell. Guys who came on later that we never gave the time of day too or got in way too late on who turned out really well. I think Ola Joseph and Payne, and to a lesser extent Carrington, although Pitino offered him fall into that category. Carrington and Ola Joseph were the most productive players on some stacked Sizzle and D1 Minnesota rosters. Payne lead his AAU team to a 40 win campaign. This staff did a great job building relationships, getting in early, keeping the relationship strong with Josph even when the offer didn't initially come.

I was a rabid Red Sox fan, old enough to remember 1975 and 1978, in 1986 when the ball dribbled through Bill Buckner's legs.
...not to mention, I was following this webpage, moment by moment, waiting for Reid Travis to announce.
My scars are DEEP.
QUIT WITH THE PREMATURE CHICKENS!!!

Weird to include Crowl in this statement. No idea how his career will turn out but he scored 8 points and grabbed 9 rebounds on the SEASON for UW. He's insulting the other guys in the list for his inclusion. But point otherwise taken.

But in the spirit of keeping this on topic, I am excited to add Joshua!

Go Gophers!!

Normally I agree. But can't imagine anyone going on Minnesota TV to announce Clemson or Loyola.
Agreed. . .and I know ND football is a different beast, but it wasn't so long ago that a local station and prep talent fell all over themselves to broadcast an out of state commitment:
Quinn Carroll

I'm a lifelong Reds fan. Sorry about Game 7. Ski-U-Mah.

Don't jinx us. Anyone can pull a Quinn...
What would be the point in televising a commitment to an out of state non blue blood? It's not like this is a 5* prospect.

Up next after the break, see which local prep athlete is commiting to Idaho community college...

JOJ is pretty much a lock to UMN. Nice job Ben and Dave!

yes this was a done deal basically since the offer came....welcome aboard JOJ.

Now lets go get Pierre & Dunn while the football team is kicking OSU butts on Thursday and we enjoy the ride.
