All Things Gophers Basketball Class of 2022 Recruiting Thread

We didn't have a chance with this guy. Purdue was the heavy favorite before BJ even got the job. His dad is a Purdue alumnus. BJ tried to swing for him, the cards were stacked against him.

Now, don't dodge my question like a pansy. Did you think we had a realistic shot of landing him? You are acting like we did, now how about you verbalize it.
You missed the first word I wrote, jackass. What an incredible tool.

Oh hey, you actually did answer a question for once. In all the years I've been on here, that was the first time. Big step for you.

Now, since you did think it was realistic, allow me to laugh at you for being hella wrong.

I feel like there’s been a lot of goal post moving. When spring recruiting was sub par I was told not to worry and that class of 2022 is what really mattered. Now that is off to a bad start, people are saying it’s unrealistic for him to land the top Minnesota recruits (which is why we hired him?) so what is it guys? I just want some consistency here.
And not to mention, the primary reason we hired Johnson to begin with was because of these supposedly great relationships with MN high school players. So far we’re looking at an O for Pitino recruiting class.

Jackass missed it. Being a jackass.
Looks like Badger disagrees with you jackass.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Priority.

I’m tired of excuses with this program. Fair or not, Ben better make some things happen on the recruiting trail soon or it’s going to get real ugly for him. The days of “explaining” why we didn’t get another high quality MN kid are in my rear view mirror for me as a fan. Heide is going to be a VERY good college player. This is a big miss regardless of family ties or Ben’s length of tenure.

Respect your opinion but disagree. He has the parents as alumni, he has a relationship with one of the best coaches in the conference. Ben did all he could. I am not concerned at all where players come from.

You read incorrectly, he isn't disagreeing with me. In fact, he isn't even addressing the points you and I are discussing.

Not getting Heide hurts but I feel like was expected. If this trend continues with other local kids—that is an issue.
I personally don’t care where Gopher players come from but Ben was touted as someone who would do well locally and I think that was used as a reason to hire someone with no HC experience. If he lands a bunch of great kids from other states no one will care that he missed Minnesota kids. If he lands duds from other states he’ll lose his job. If the Minnesota kids he does get are duds—he’ll lose his job.

Priority. Day 1.
This is where you start ignoring what I said because you realized you were wrong.

As long as we're at it, since when do you cite builtbadgers to try and support yourself? You've done nothing but complain about his every post for years.

Of course they were going to take a shot with Heide to try and recruit him. Doesn't mean they had a reasonable chance at landing him, he's been close to a lock for Purdue for quite a long time already, and you'd know this if you followed anything with recruiting.

Cam was a priority from day one but they knew what they were up against. Make no mistake, they went after him with all they have. This staff loves everything about his game. Not worried in the least, he was a long shot.
We’re going to have to respectfully disagree on this one, built. I’ve been a diehard fan since I was 5 years old. I want Ben to succeed as much as anyone but enough is enough. He might very well turn out great but I’ve got zero patience left for this program. He was hired to recruit the hell out of the MN kids and cater to the local AAU programs. I want results, not excuses. That’s what most of us hear from our employers and I make a lot less per year than Johnson.

During his radio stint on KFAN, he damn near put me to sleep and was about as energetic and exciting as an unplugged toaster. To say I’m concerned about where we are and where we’re headed is the understatement of the year. Get results, Ben…life isn’t fair.

This class is deep. Only two who were the most unlikely for us to get have committed If we have none committed by September then it’s justified and worth worrying.

Will you be happy with Holloman, Watson, and Carrington? He will get at least one of them, and I think he has over a 50% chance of getting two. This is the deepest MN class probably ever. We will get some locals soon.

Heck, he might get all three of them! The two that committed already are the two that were probably never headed to MN. Ben starts losing out on the rest - then people can complain.

There’s plenty to be hopeful for and a great class is still possible. I personally believe that Holloman goes to MSU but he’d be a program-changing commitment for sure. My concern is I’m not convinced Ben is a great recruiter like so many of the optimists have anointed him already.

No dice. Priority. Went elsewhere. Miss.
No complaints. Pointing out dishonesty. You’d know that if you were capable of comprehension.

That’s fair. I think it’s also fair and better for yours and any fans sanity to at least wait and see who we have committed in September and not worry about recruiting loses yet. I can and do hear and understand you on the losing patience portion.

I understand. I look at it like we took the first step by removing a terrible tooth. Now we have no choice on time. Cam was a longshot. He choose a really good and proven winner. Chose a program more than a tier above. Ben will build from the bottom up. There will be several recruiting misses, both of guys you did not get and guys you got that do not work out. I like the steady quiet approach. He will get surprises on the good side. He will get character, mental toughness, unselfish and hardworking players.

I think we all want to be ISU or Purdue or many other programs right now where kids are jumping at the chance to commit. I do think we may have 1 or 2 in the next month to 6 weeks and hopefully that will take the edge off people wondering if he can actually recruit. Ben and the staff are working hard at it, just need the results.

I dont doubt Ben is working hard, but quite honestly I'm with Slim Tubby, im over the excuses with this program. It's time to put up or shut up. Tre will go to MSU and it will be "well it was always his first choice and it's izzo" and Lee will leave and "we didn't really want him". I'm past that, win or find someone who can. Is that being tough on Ben, it absolutely is, but he's being paid $2m a year to coach a B1G basketball team, if that isn't expected then we shouldn't have a program.

I got news for you $2 million for a coach at a major division 1 program is a joke. That is one reason they hired him as they knew they could pay him well below what other coaches would have cost. I am seriously worried that this season may be the worst in the history of the program and that’s sting something.

Give me (and us all) a break.

They aren’t a major D1 program. Have never acted like or played like one. They are a team in a major D1 conference.

Enough is enough after 2 months? Before the first game?
