All Things Tre Holloman Recruitment Thread (Class of 2022)

This guy is as competitive as they get. We need him and he could turn the program around. Hopefully Oturu can pursade him into staying home

You mis-spelled Ben Johnson.

Former players in the NBA don't convince HS players 5 years younger than them. This is on Johnson. Oturu can send a text or two, but that stuff is overrated. This is all about Johnson and the staff.

Go Gophers!!

What makes you so confident? I know this is precisely why Ben was brought in but the problem is that most players (or so it would logically seem) want to play for a proven coach, not just someone from their home state.

Hopefully I'm wrong!

Curious to understand why Ben would stand out to Tre, other than the obvious reason?

-- Tre's Mom went to and played at the U and seemed very supportive of the decision to hire Ben on social media.

-- Oturu went to CDH and obviously was very positive about his experience at the U. I would think Daniel likely has some kind of connection/dialogue with Tre seeing as they have the CDH roots.

I'm certain that Bleed wasn't saying it was an automatic that Tre would come here, but he is absolutely correct that he needs to be priority one in recruiting. He's likely the highest rated local recruit in the class, and will have a tremendous influence over others. He also appears to be the kind of guy who is a winner and a leader.

He has the chance to be our Mateen Cleaves, the recruit that changed the trajectory of a program and helped build to national prominence.

Could be overrated, but I'd argue the CDH/Oturu connection has a better chance of helping than it does of hurting.

I agree, just hoping there is a little bit of CDH connection and he can push him towards Minnesota. I really think it comes down to Minnesota and Michigan State. Hoping Tre wants to follow in his Mom's footsteps and be a Gopher.

Johnson is up against Izzo for this one, good way to establish yourself as the boss if he can steal Holloman away from MSU.

How about adding Joe Mauer to the mix? Hahaha...

You're giving me bad flashbacks to the decades of amazing athletes CDH had who never sniffed the Gophers....

Steve Walsh
Chris Weinke
Joe Mauer
Ryan Harris
Seantrel
Jashon Cornell
Michael Floyd
Carl McCullough

Huge gap there between Paul Molitor and Daniel Oturu. Hopefully we can change that (although I know CDH is not nearly the athletic powerhouse it once was)

Four items on new Gophers men’s basketball coach Ben Johnson’s to-do list

Tre Holloman

Gophers football coach P.J. Fleck stepped off the the side before Tuesday’s news conference to chat with Johnson. The topic of conversation was likely pleasantries, but recruiting talk is never far from their minds.

One recruiting target they’re both pursing is Cretin-Derham Hall guard/cornerback Tre Holloman. It will be interesting to see how the two coaches approach the best two-sport prospect in the state of Minnesota in the 2022 class.

Go Gophers!!

Wow, coach looks pissed. Kind of a shame sports has come to this
I’m not offended by it at all but I will say I like their coach a lot. Definitely didn’t seem to like it. Solid dude. Hope Daniel is trying to funnel him to the Gophers

Can't hurt. Gotta imagine he'll play 2 but he could obviously play up to 3 seasons with the COVID year. Between Hoggard (I know he plays off ball a bit for them too), Walker and 2021 signee Jalen Akins, they're set at PG for awhile. Big chance at a statement win on the trail for Ben and his future staff with Tre. I've talked him up enough already on this forum but not a better tone setter out there for the brand of basketball Ben wants to play.

A few more which come to mind -

Jeff Rosga (multi-sport stud) started at DB for several years there.
IIRC also Lorenzo Powers-Neal, RB, I can't recall if he was ever their every down back , but it seems to me he had a lot of carries as a bruising back @225 lbs.

It's still a cool experience and you never know how much it resonates with someone.

Every little bit helps IMO - All Gophers report for duty!!

You mean Joe Mauer, the QB who signed a letter of intent to attend Florida State...?
Whatever happened to him? I don’t remember him being a college QB. Probably failed at life. Sad waste of talent.
