I liked it a lot - not on the level of The Wire, but then again very few are? FWIW - it's my #1 drama of all time. I'd say it is just a notch below Treme (which I loved, as I love New Orleans, jazz and good food - I saw Kermit Ruffins blow in person -wow). I'd give it a B-, while I'd give Treme a B.

I am hoping that David Simon has the interest and one more good series in him - many what a run he's had.

Yeah, it is interesting the perspectives these movies take. Band of Brothers and Private Ryan the americans were noble and professional. Its sequel, the Pacific, was also produced by Spielberg and Hanks, but they went for a totally different feel - much more dark. Generation Kill gives the impression that the americans are not honorable in a lot of ways and are very possibly even the bad guys in the iraqi war.

Good points - I like it because it is more realistic IMO as it show the good, the bad and the ugly of soldiers.

No intention of derailing the thread -- but just have to say that I love that The Wire poses the question (in addition to other important questions): "Why does it have to be that violence and selling drugs go hand in hand?" I believe McNulty says at one point something like "why can't you just sell the stuff, and then go home?"

The type of people that are ok selling drugs are probably also ok with violence when it comes to morals. Factor in money, power, ego's, using what you're selling which alters thinking, and the risk of getting caught and I'm sure there are plenty of opportunities for things to spill over.

Watched "History of Swear Words"

Cage and the comedians were pretty funny, and the academics taught you with some humor in their stuff, too.

Thanks, I was wondering if this was worth a go or not. Cage started to fade off my acting integrity after National Treasure.

A great reality show would have be to have him and Deep each have faux $10M to see who could spend it on the stupidest shite. Good Lord, unlimited drugs aren't as good as they sound!

Fair question.

I recently read/audible a book called, Heal Our Violence, by Richard Rohr. It made me think about all the violence in our society - timely, as it is literally every where.

I came to the following conclusion - there is a difference between a show/movie that is violent or contains violence. I feel that The Wire is the latter - violence is part of that world/"game."

I loved The Wire not because of it, but rather in spite of it. I loved the dialogue and the fact that it exposed the worlds in an honest depiction of the cops, drug dealers, drug users, educators, unions, print media; he literally spared no one IMO. The violence was honest, so it was shocking and senseless and most or the time, it is confined to those communities and the people who live there.

Think of Bubbles, the drug addict who got sober. What a beautiful nuanced portrait of a petty criminal/drug addict who finally go it - I have known Bubbles in my life as I have worked with the guys who address was Stillwater and Lino Lakes correctional facilities via a spiritual based program- some were like Bubbles, some like Omar & Avon.

I think week should be legalized and that's where we're headed. I'm not sure about others like coke, shrooms and opiates are a definite no for me.

For me, it's all about the risk of addiction. That's the evil with drugs, gambling, etc. People's lives get ruined. No one wants that. But if people are mostly able to get pleasure or otherwise derive benefit without becoming addicted, then I see no reason no to legalize it.

She's legit hot. Played the girlfriend that gets murdered as the basis for Wind River.

It took me to the middle of season 2 of Yellowstone to realize that this same actress plays the wife of a main character in the show. Yes she is hot.

Can't remember if anyone here recommended Search Party. It's on HBO Max. First two seasons were on TBS. But both those two and the newer two are streaming. It's pretty damn good.

Is Yellowstone really good?

Kostner seems to be getting better and better with age.

He's had some earlier stuff that was really good too. Obviously Dances with Wolves he won for best director and nominated for best actor. Field of Dreams is a classic. I liked Tin Cup.

He also did win an Emmy for best actor in a miniseries, back in 2012 for Hatfields & McCoy's. That's set in the late 1800's ..... so maybe still relevant to the modern setting of Wyoming/Montana.

Thanks.

So is that a buy for Yellowstone?

Warrior on HBO Max is pretty great. Was a Cinemax show before they made the decision to stop doing originals....so it's hard to know whether they are done after two seasons or if HBO Max is going to pick it up.

Created by the same guy who created Banshee. You can tell.

WandaVision has been a real trip. Olsen & Bettany are great in the title roles. And Kathryn Hahn is good in almost everything she does.

I like to binge-watch those shows, so I'm waiting until the whole season is done and I can watch multiple episodes in a row. That's what I did with both seasons of "The Mandalorian."

As soon as I see something is a comic book anything, my mind immediately goes (n)(n)(n)(n)

Loved Red Oakes BTW - thanks for whomever recommended it in this thread.

It was funny and a a great reminder of the 80s sex comedies.

Richard Kind and Paul Reiser were great and Jennifer Grey aged very well.

I also loved the music from that era.

Highly recommend it for those who want a fun comedy.

I'm sure that I've mentioned it before.....but The Knick was finally added to HBO Max. Incredible show. Sounds like after about six years....a third season is in production.

Also on Peacock, the new Saved by the Bell is seriously good. I was shocked. It was funny and smart. I know Bleed is a big SBBB fan. I hope you've seen it or are planning to watch it.
