He actually drew Pantherhawk into the comments with it, so I can see your point. Despite being the enemy, the crew at BHGB is quite good. Usually informative, and almost always hilarious.

And SoaB, I think they may be on suicide watch over there over the basketball team. It's quite entertaining to watch.

I see plenty of Iowa hatred on this board during the football season. I went to high school in Minnesota and got my fair share of deluded gopher propaganda thrown my way. Of course, this article is over the top and hyperbolic. When the basketball team is in shambles and the football team won the orange bowl, I'm not surprised to see something like this. To say however that the hatred for Minnesota ranks over one's allegiances to Iowa is not a correct assertion.

The other posters on here are correct that those guys are usually pretty good. However, the problem isn't so much that the writers hate the Gophers as that there are plenty of Iowa fans who actually base their lives on whether their football team beats Minnesota or not. But they have to keep it to football and wrestling because of the yearly beatings we deliver to them in virtually every other sport, men's basketball included. So don't bring up any other sports with them because they'll just repeat the same crap regarding football and wrestling.

But hey, I say let them have their fun. The trash talk will last until after the January bowl games and then they will mysteriously disappear until the start of football season the next year. That's the way Iowa fans operate.

Well, we split the regular season in Women's Basketball and Iowa finished 3rd in the big10 regular season. We also finished higher than Minnesota in Women's Gymnastics at the Big10 Invite. Minnesota wins more of the non-revenue sports against Iowa but that is not always the case ( I am not sure of all the results this season and honestly don't care too much anyway). With regard to Men's Basketball, Iowa finished the decade with a 11-9 record versus the Golden Gophers. While the last 3 seasons have been abysmal for the hawks against Minnesota, Iowa still had a more successful decade in terms of big10 tournament titles (2) and post-season appearances (including the NIT).

Current standings of Learfield Cup list Minnesota as #7 and Iowa as #57 in the country. In fact, it appears the only Big 10 school lower in the rankings than Iowa is Northwestern at #60. See link.

Enjoy your sophomoric comments while you can. The rest of us will resign ourselves to the merits of the football programs respectively. I am sure it feels great making comments like that until the realization hits that the Iowa football, a bunch of hillbillies and incestuous beings (this according to a Wisconsin fan that I encountered after we beat them in Camp Randall this past season) continue to defeat the gophers regularly in football. Hopefully, as I truly believe, the gophers will turn the corner in the next few years and be a semi-competitive program in the big10 with the likes of Ohio State, Penn State, Iowa and Wisconsin. For now, stick to your childish caricatures because that seems to be all you have regarding the football "rivalry" over the last decade.

All rivalries have streaks where one team dominates, and they all have some blowouts. (there have been quite a few close games too) To say there is a lack of a rivalry between the U and the hogeyes because they've had the better decade is a little ridiculous. It's a lasting, great college football rivalry. Rivalries like the one between the U and Iowa are what makes college football great. And at some point, hopefully sooner than later, the maroon and gold will be up, the hogeyes will be rebuilding, and we will have the better of it.

The National Championships won by the Gophers are commendable and worthy of recognition. Is it not embarrassing that a school can go from winning national titles in the Great Depression/WII to being a bottom feeder in the big10 over the last 40+ years? The only retort I ever hear from Gopher fans revolves around the team's success in the 1930s and 1940s. Again, congrats but let's now analyze the incremental deterioration of the program since 1967. The Gophers have winning records against only two big10 teams in that time period.

I'll use the Ohio State vs. Michigan rivalry to explain this to you. (Unless of course you don't think it is a rivalry) From 1952 to 1975, OSU won 17 of 23 matchups. From 1976 to 2000, Michigan won 19 of 24. This decade, Ohio State won 9 of 10. Seems like there are long periods (apparently streaks wasn't descriptive enough for you to understand) of dominance in every rivalry. Point is, the U vs. Iowa is still a good rivalry. And like most rivalries, its history and passion within the respective programs for beating the other makes it so.

And PapaHawk, my earlier post had nothing to do with my gopher fanhood. I simply disagreed with the thought that Iowa is not a rival with the U. And, as you can see above, I have plenty of reason for that. That said, Iowa is getting sickening and I think we'll turn it around soon.

They like to separate their shoulders patting themselves on the back because they've had a modicum of success over the last 30 years.

I'd much rather be a has-been than a never-was.

So, here's to you, Iowa. Congrats on your zero national championships (to Minnesota's 6). Congrats on your 11 Big Ten titles (to Minnesota's 18). Congrats on your .530 winning percentage all time (to Minnesota's .580). All of this despite the fact that Minnesota has generally sucked for the last 40 years.

Tell us, Iowa - how does it feel to know that you could win every game vs. the Gophers for the next 16 years, and still be behind in the series?

Tell us, Iowa - how does it feel to make fun of Brewster for purchasing a trophy commemorating one of our half-dozen national championships, whilst you can't even purchase one trophy as a token of your zero national championships?
