Morgan’s Draft Stock Taking a Hit

Playing behind an offensive line that’s missing two starting-quality linemen, completed 16 of 33 pass attempts for 167 yards, a TD, two INTs and was sacked four times in the 35-7 loss to the Hawkeyes.

Walter Football recently ranked Morgan the 11th best quarterback in the 2021 draft class as he’s hovered between being a Day 1 starter and a potential developmental backup as a mid-round prospect. Walter Football suggested he return to school for his 2022 season.

Morgan, standing 6-foot-2 and running a 4.79 40-time, fits the mold of a mobile quarterback who can create space outside the pocket and fit in the Vikings’ play-action, zone running scheme.

Despite his struggles this season, Morgan’s potential has not been written off as he’s played well against some of the toughest competition in college football. In the Outback Bowl last season, Morgan upset an Auburn team that took national champion LSU to the wire in a 23-20 loss in the 2019 regular season. He completed 19 of 28 passes for 278 yards and two TDs, overcoming an interception he threw on the game’s first drive. The win was one of the biggest in program history, per the Star Tribune.

The Union, Ky., native recently said that he loves watching the Vikings and has already developed a relationship with Kirk Cousins.

Anyone who watched Morgan play last year knew he was not a 1st round NFL draft prospect. He's not physically impressive. He doesn't read defenses. He had good stats because he had the best WR Tandem in the Big 10 and an incredibly efficient offense that was built on a quality running game.

Just because the team won 11 games and Morgan was good does not mean he was a high round NFL prospect. He's just not.

So yer saying leidner would have had Morgan’s same stats last year? Cmon man.
 





Good kid, competent. Compedative. Will be successful in his life after football 1.4 years from now. Closest to NFL will be in the stands like us.

Zero chance? David Blough, Ben DiNucci, Nate Sudfeld, Ryan Griffin, John Wolford, hell CHRIS STREVELER is on a NFL roster. Morgan can be a backup somewhere.
 


Two off-the-wall predictions I have been making for a couple years now:

1) Faalele will be more successful as a WWE wrestler than he will be in the NFL
2) Tanner Morgan will eventually get into coaching, possibly with the Gophers
 




What does Todd McShay say. I recall him being high on gopher qbs in the past.
 

It doesn't take a genius to state that these past four games hurt his NFL prospects. He needs to improve or there is the possibility he might not be starting by the end of this season. If his level of play improves from now until the end of next season, he'll find himself in the mid-round draft mix.

Not to nitpick, but he's not 6'2". I have never seen him as a prototypical mobile QB either.

No...probably not a first round pick. But he was pinpoint accurate for the majority of the season.

I have seen qbs with physical body to match the nfl body type fail at the collegiate level.

Chris Streveler is about 1000% more athletic than Morgan.
 


I like Tanner Morgan, but he's 6' on his tip toes, lacks speed, athleticism & has the limp spaghetti noodle for an arm. He's the ultimate 'gamer', that's his strong suit. That only stands up though, when you're winning. Last season everything fell perfectly into place for him (us). Every ball bounced his way. This year, reality has set in. He's an ok QB who had a historic year last year, which he's unlikely to recreate. Specific to this thread, he lacks all the measurables & tangible skills the NFL looks for.
 



Anyone that thought Morgan was a top pick is delusional. He was always a late round pick at best. The talent around him last year was exceptional and he had a great connection with the OC. I think he will be a potential great coach some day.

Saying Tanner isn't a high round draft pick isn't saying he won't be drafted, Leidner was an UDFA. There's room in between those two things.

A friend of mine who is 6 foot was playing golf and he thought he was taller then Tanner. A 4.8 40 yard dash, is like a 5 electronic. He fell over during the last game attempting to roll out left.
