All Things COVID-19 College Football Impact

Wow this has been a wild ride. The spread of misinformation is rampant and people cling on to whatever reports reinforce their bias.

I'm still skeptical a season happens at all even if the presidents pass a vote.

I dislike the Big Red Nebraska fan base and thoroughly enjoyed watching them leave our stadium depressed last year. That was fun!
Well, there's certainly enough people that are actively working against it for one to be skeptic, there's no doubt about that

The study is Ohio State, not Penn State. It hasn't been published yet. You know all this now. No need to overrev your gaslight machine.

When it is published, we will see what kind of numbers the MRI scans are showing.

If the average is 5% of heart tissue inflamed, what does that mean?
If the average is 50% of heart tissue inflamed, what does that mean?

I'm fine with President Trump expressing his opinion with the conference officials. Ultimately, I do think it will come down to their level of comfort with the liability angle, and also how it goes for those programs which are playing.

1. It never says they are disrupting it for everyone, it says they are disrupting the requirement of that family structure.

2. Nice try taking a partial sentence out of context to make an argument, here is the full statement:

3. What makes you think people aren't also doing something outside of posting on an internet forum? I post here as you describe, and have been active in local protests, and informing myself as a voter and voting to promote change within our government.
Would you agree that the best thing that every child could have is a mother and a father in the household? This is not only proven, it is discussed by almost every single parenting professional you can think of. Why would we not want to promote and uplift fathers and mothers of all races to be great parents and be in the home? Be great people? Be great parents. It is the single most important job there is. By saying that a nuclear family is not important it gives an excuse to those mothers and fathers who opt out of their responsibility and not being the person their child or children need.

^^ No, because what if the father is an abusive drunk? Then it would be better if he was outta there.

Etc. The world is never as nice and neat, as it appears you would like it to be.

as to ethnicity - I am a Norwegian/Swedish Lutheran who grew up in a small farming community in rural Minnesota.

In other words, I am the whitest person in the world. and I mean that literally. I do not tan. if I spend any time out in the sun, I burn, peel, and then I'm ghostly-white again.
Same mix here - Swede/Norwegian. Not a chance anyone is more white than we are and there are a lot of us as you know in Europe. Sunburn, peel, repeat. Dump Trump, yesterday would be nice.

I would also like to know who supports burning down buildings in our great state. Who does? Who supports violence? Who supports hate. At what point do we need to stop with that and be human beings towards each other. Put common sense back on the table. And live by the principals that God himself guides us to do. And if you believe in another higher power believe in what they expect.

Some of the clowns in here have some real TDS. They hate trump and don’t know why other than orange man bad. Yet they will vote Biden, a pedophile, and someone who has been in big government for 40 plus years without accomplishing anything, but he miraculously will once he president. News flash, guy doesn’t even know where he is when he wakes up.

liberalism is a mental disease and it shows. Look at the clown talking national guard attacking citizens. Ok North Korea wannabe. Sounds like the place for you, but you won’t, you will stay and enjoy the freedoms America capitalism provides.

TRUMP TRAIN will roll sleepy joe and the liberal tears will flood the Mississippi.

I don't hate trump, I do think he's a terrible president and an even worse person. He's narcissistic, has no empathy, a conman, a cheat, and sexual predator.

As president he pushes for a stupid wall, incites violence, shows no real ability to govern, and wholely incompetent. He wants to politically punish areas that don't support him, calls parts of the country he governs shitholes, and his only real "accomplishment" was giving large tax breaks to wealthy and corporations. Job growth and GDP growth prior to pandemic mirrored three years prior to him taking office, but his cultist followers attribute greatest economy to him and ignore it followed same trend it was before. During good economic times, he ballooned the deficit with tax cuts and increased spending.

But I'll say this when he was elected I pledged to vote for his reelection if he built 2,000 mile 30 feet high concrete wall for 5 billion dollars like he originally promised (forget mexico paying for it). Not because I supported the wall (i don't, I support improving border check points, drone monitoring, etc, not a useless wall) but because if he did that, he was a god damn miracle worker. He's spent 15 billion and has largely only upgraded exisiting structure, and instead of 30 foot concrete wall, it's been poorly installed flat style fencing to shady contractor that marketed to him by going through his favorite advisor, fox news.

Trump has normalized conspiracy therories like Qanon. He's failed lead during covid. He's corrupt. Amazing how guy that works with best people ends having so many best people ending up in jail. He pisses off allies and sucks up to dictators

I'm well aware of why I don't like Trump.

I'm not a huge Biden guy, I preferred Klobuchar, but in todays politics she doesn't have the charisma to win over voters.

2018 was first time I voted straight democratic ticket and 2020 will be second. Trump is a shitstain on America

It is hilarious to see so many quickly discount the report of high rates of myocarditis in the B1G and then take a second hand tweet about the NFL as the gospel truth. That has to deal more with what you want to believe then looking at the facts.

As I stated before, the B1G study was done over a 3 month period by Dr Curt Daniels at Ohio State (not someone who calls himself a Dr on Twitter). It is being publish in a respected scientific journal after it clears peer review.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/23/sports/ncaafootball/college-football-myocarditis-coronavirus.html

If you dig deeper into the NFL info, it was not done using a cardiac MRI. It was done using EKG, measuring troponin levels and echocardiograms.

Those that have real scientific training (not those that play like they do on GH) can tell you that the measuring tools are very different. The NFL used tools to check for damage that has occurred to the heart. Damage that could have been caused by acute cases of myocarditis, but not for the presence of myocarditis. The Dr at OSU used a very powerful MRI that allows you to actual look at the heart to see the myocarditis itself (before it can damage the heart).

Again, the B1G was looking for myocarditis, the NFL is looking for damage caused by myocarditis.

Let us ignore the fact that the PSU guy screwed up and said 30-35% when the study actually says 15%. That just distracts from the overall issue, because 15% is still a very high number.

The results from Dr Daniels research show that Covid-19 is linked to myocarditis in the hearts of athletes. The level of inflammation may not be to a point where it can cause damage to the heart, but it is present and has the potential. Since we do not know what levels of inflammation are safe, it was in the B1G's opinion to error on the side of safety and wait on the season.

So your going to vote for someone you don’t support in Biden? What our system really needs is a third party. That would help so it’s not always this power push between dems and reps. I voted Independent in 2016 for everyone’s info.

It all comes down to fear imo.

In my experience, extreme righties are scared of everything. They see the changing demographics in the US and with it old belief systems being challenged. And because they can't stop the tide of demographic change in any realistic way (and therefore their long cherished "real American" world view being questioned), they're freaking the hell out and lashing out in every direction.

BLM, muslims, homosexuals, immigrants, Antifa; you name it, they're scared of it.

Meanwhile, the vast majority of the world goes on about their daily business the best they can.

As our current commander-in-chief put it so succinctly, it is what it is.
Lashing out? The only ones doing that is BLM and Antifa and ruining thousands of honest, hard working peoples lives, dreams and future.

Fear? The Lefties have been fearful of Trump even before he was sworn in and haven’t stopped shaking. Don’t confuse fear with strength and resolve. I want my freedom as much as anyone and will oppose any Leftie who threatens that right.

How many people vote for someone ... they fully support?

It's a two party system... the odds of finding someone who really matches your ideas is pretty low.

And I'd argue anyone who thinks they found someone who does match them exactly, is not paying attention...

I would venture to guess that both Trump and Biden are equally clueless on culturally biased topics. Two older, wealthy white men. Here we are a bunch older white men arguing about two guys that know about as much as we do about race equity and issues that people who have been marginalized through the years. We are all equally hypocritical. If we are being honest with ourselves that is where most of us are.

How many of us are voting for someone because we just hate the other person. I would say that different. Right?

Different from what?

It's just a question of how you made your choice. Support, not support, hate the other guy more. These aren't binary, they're all on a scale.

If there was a viable third candidate, I would consider it. There is not, Biden is closer to my side. I will never vote for Trump. I highly doubt Trump will win MN, but vote for anyone but biden is essentially a vote for Trump

In end, we're choosing between two senile old out of touch white guys. And I find it scary these are the best we could come up with?

Well the primary system isn't about 'best' it's about what a small number of political party fanboys most like, and even then just the folks in a few states ... nothing about best in that.

Ranked choice voting please.

and since primary usually only attract partisan voters on both sides, we often end up with more extreme candidates.

It's pretty obvious the DNC told all moderate candidates they needed to get behind one candidate or risk Bernie Sanders.

nas voters we need to disrupt the system or it will always be the good old boys club running the show. A large percentage of people need to decide to vote independent.

Trump is doing his best to scare shit out of white suburban women to vote for him.

I don't think that's actually that unusual, that's often how it works in all parties most of the time... if people do it is another question... thus the voting.

If someone comes to you and says "hey you should vote for that guy for reasons" and you do, that's how the thing works...

^^ excellent post.

I think a potential stumbling block, which is more of a distraction that potentially limits progress than it is helpful, is that cardiologists are trained to think of myocarditis as a deadly disease, which it is, in a traditional medical sense.

Is it possible to have some kind of acute, possibly temporary, possibly innocuous, inflammation of the heart tissue that shows up on MRI but not on EKG or chemical tests — and that in such cases, it may not be appropriate to label it as myocarditis?? I think this is a completely open frontier in cardiac disease research.

But the main point comes back to, as always: we don’t know.

Jebus. That’s all you can come back with? We’ve already said multiple times it isn’t published yet.

Do you have anything of value to add?

No, it’s living in reality, and having proper perspective. Nobody is saying myocarditis isn’t present or isn’t a potential problem.

You’ve been proven wrong so many times it’s amazing you keep coming back.

You have no idea what the paper may or may not say, relevance. Glad you clarified.

Why don’t we wait for actual numbers, data, interpretation before shouting from the rooftops misleading or outright erroneous data, like your pal Alchemy?
