Greder: U displaying its 2019 BT West trophy in the Larson Football Performance Center.

I'm ok with this.

I want more too, but I'm ok with celebrating what was a historic season, regardless what the trophy says or what I might want later.

I don't see this as any different than when basketball teams celebrate co-big ten titles.
YES, when your co big 10 basketball champs that is for the whole conference. Co big 10 west champs is for the division only. Huge difference.

From a conference standpoint, I can see how it makes sense to spread around the trophies and recognize co-champions and, if they are going to hand out the trophies, I don't blame the U for displaying them. I would not have put it on the ring, I don't think, but it doesn't offend me.

I don't see why it's considered a huge difference. We're not claiming co-big ten champs.

In basketball we have tiebreakers for seeding, in football we have tiebreakers for championship game eligibility. If we're calling Wisconsin a champion, then it only makes sense to include Minnesota if we're being consistent.

For the record, I think co-big ten champs in basketball are stupid, and if the B1G didn't do this in basketball I would have an issue with it.

If it was the other way around, how would we be reacting to Wisc getting to claim a B1G West title? I think something is missing from your last sentence...?

We wouldn’t react

How do we react to all of Alabama’s Ridiculous national championship claims?

Earth to people....nobody cares

Wouldn’t care. Schools can and should claim whatever they’re allowed too. Wisconsin knows they beat us. We know we lost. Doesn’t change that we both lost the same number of games. Since the B1G chooses to recognize co-champs, we shouldn’t reject it.

You can argue whether co-champs shouldn’t be recognized, and I would probably argue they shouldn’t, but I don’t make the rules.

We didn't play in the championship game. That's a pretty big separator for me.
I'd prefer hungry versus congratulations on your Big Ten West Championship...wait what?
Frost and his guys were National Champions too....at least they were undefeated.

How do you suggest they do it in basketball when there is a tie. I have zero problem honoring co big 10 west champions but getting a tie for a division title is different than a conference title. UW got a big 10 title trophy for basketball. We did not get a big 10 football title, we did not even make the title game.

I prefer recognizing only one division champion.

However....I can see how the Big Ten would award schools with the same record. Just for shits and giggles....imagine if Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin all tied for the same BT record....with each having one win over one of the others. Only one of those teams could represent the Big Ten in the Championship game....and it would come down to non head to head tiebreakers. That IMO would be a reason to award multiple division champions.

Again....that isn't the case. Wisconsin had the head to head tiebreaker. But as I stated....there is a reason the Big Ten chooses to do it this way. It would be stupid to not recognize the accomplishment of a 7-2 Big Ten record.

The Big 10 West Champion gets to play the Title game against the East. Everyone else, losers. No steak knives.

Wait, so the Big Ten sent us a trophy and people want us to NOT display it?!? I guess we are in that kind of position where we just don't have room with all our other trophies, eh?
Please nobody tell Tyrone....

If you're gonna go that far why even recognize the west champ.

Correct, I like the Tanner Boyle approach, "Take your trophy and shove it up your..."

I suggest they use the same criteria they already use to determine BTT seeding.

The west is a social construct. Why recognize anything short of a national championship?
Because championship programs build their way up through division and conference championships. These things matter to those that are doing the competing. Best part of all this, the team earned the award that the conference sent them, we did not have to declare it. As a fan, of course i want the national title but i am damn proud of a season where we were co-champs of the west !

If you don't beat Wisconsin and you don't beat Ohio State, you didn't earn any trophy.
