All Things Movie/Documentary Reviews/Recommendations Thread

Just finished The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez. I was so mad through all 6 episodes. Just heartbreaking.

Who’s seen Tiger King yet? Hearing it’s crazy.

I've been resisting watching it so far, but I suppose I'll cave sooner or later. The live show got some unfavorable press recently due to still playing packed shows in the virus environment.

Tiger King was pretty nuts. You just cannot believe that some of these people actually exist.

We finished it the other day. It was getting late and we had one episode left but I told me wife we have to watch it because I so want it to be over with. It was entertaining and crazy but I will never want to watch it again.

Me neither. It was entertaining while it lasted. I am however interested to hear updates on the people involved. I know that David Spade has had several of the people on his Comedy Central talk show in the last week or two.

It's a shame the Hitchcock Festival at The Riverview, Heights and Trylon got cancelled. If you haven't been, try and get there next year.
I just got a big refund from the Trylon for several movies I bought tickets for. They are great, great owners.

Based on everything I've heard, I'm probably going to look at a number of other options before checking this out.

If anyone wants a well done Easter movie, I’d recommend “Risen“ with Joseph Fiennes. This came out a few years ago. Even non religious folks that appreciate period movies should enjoy it. I’ll admit many religious themed movies can feel somewhat second rate production quality wise. Not this movie.

Just finished Tiger King. Then, I looked at the Things To Do in Tampa Thread for the Outback Bowl - “Big Cat Rescue looks interesting” comment in the post. Chuckle - oh it’s interesting all right, watch Tiger King.

Loved it.

I'm not a huge Hitchcock fan, but I see a lot of classic movies at the Trylon, Riverview & Parkway.

I watched Out of Shadows last night. I saw that it was trending amongst some right wing circles, so I just had to watch. As one might suspect, it was nothing more than another one of those conservitard documentaries that alleges that a few powerful puppet masters are pulling the levers behind MSM and Hollywood, LOL! It really is a greatest hits of various unfounded conservitard conspiracies including operation mockingbird, operation paperclip, satanists in Hollywood, MK ultra, the Gulf of Tonkin incident, and pizza gate for good measure! LMFAO!

Well now I have to watch it. If the 20-something angry Libs hate it, there must be something there

Finally got around to watching Pan's Labyrinth. Fantastic!

My wife and I watched The Way Back, the basketball movie starring Ben Affleck. It's definitely not a movie for young kids, but it was pretty good.

Go Gophers!!

I've been THIS close to hitting the button to punch that up on PPV more than half a dozen times in the last several weeks and always find something else. I'll have to give it a shot!

For those that utilize Pluto TV (free streaming channel), they added a few new movies this week. I see that the movie “Moon” with Sam Rockwell was added. This is one of the most underrated Sci-Fi movies. Highly recommended.

One of my top ten favourite movies. Absolutely spectacular. I've watched it many times. It's Sam Rockwell and nobody else, except a few short clips of an actress playing his wife, and Kevin Spacey doing the voice work for the robot AI.

Rockwell was downright snubbed. Should have at least been nominated for an Oscar for his performance. Not to mention Duncan Jones for the original screenplay. Brilliant movie.

I don't have Pluto but yeah, I'm with you and Stocker on this. Really fantastic and made me a huge fan of Rockwell. Too bad Duncan Jones (Bowie's kid) hasn't been able to follow it up at all. After this his films seem to get successively worse.

Rewatching “Jennifer 8“ tonight, a good thriller from the late 80’s with Andy Garcia and Uma Thurman. At least I think it was good, we’ll see if it holds up.

Pluto really pretty slick. They have very limited commercials and quite a few movies on demand. They also have live TV channels as well for cord cutters. www.pluto.tv

I recently watched The Irishman on Netflix, outstanding movie.

I love a good Mob story, this was very well done.

I posted somewhere here that I thought Moon was the best science fiction feature film in years. Besides being engrossing, it's haunting. Sam Rockwell was perfect casting.

Completely agree. Goes to show that you don't need a gigantic budget to make a great sci-fi space movie. A great script, great directing, and Oscar caliber acting can get it done. And how about the writing for GERTY?

I haven't watched my 4k disc since getting it. Think I'm going to crack it open right now.

If you can handle subtitles Gomorrah, on Netflix, is excellent. Mafia crime set in Naples, Italy. Really intense.

I’m assuming most everyone is watching The Last Dance? I’d also recommend the E60 that just came out about Alex Smith. It’s very good.

I’ve been on a roll with great movies lately:
Richard Jewell - superb performances, great story 5/5
1917 - non stop great pace, beautiful images, so so story 4/5
JoJo Rabbit - had no interest in watching, wow was I wrong. Fantastic. 5/5
Knives Out - Outstanding mystery, great plot characters acting, good twist. 5/5

tiger king is fake.

anyone watch tfw no gf on amazon? i have been following kantbot on twitter, but the other characters were, for the most part, boring.

i thought the idea of trying to tell the story of the dispossessed and disaffected young male would make for a more interesting story, but i dont think it captured the spirit of the community very well.

I think this belongs here. The National Geographic channel has begun re-airing their excellent 2017 documentary on the Rodney King matter and the 1992 LA riots. Wow, that was bad. 25 dead if I recall correctly. History repeating itself recently, although far from as severely.

I thought there would be more discussion on The Last Dance. I started watching it but I think I'm only through the 4th installment. I really like it so far, it's just not the first thing I think of pulling up when I sit down in the chair to watch some TV. The length of it feels daunting for some reason.

I did manage to get through the 2 part 30 for 30 "Lance" over the weekend. I'm still torn on the whole issue with Lance Armstrong. Someone in the doc used the phrase, I forget exactly but something like, the line is so blurred between good people that do bad things and bad people that do good things.

Lance clearly did so much WRONG and was an asshole to so many people but on the flip side, what he did pretty much everyone in cycling was doing and it's just hard for me to get past all the GOOD that he accomplished with the Lance Armstrong Foundation and LiveStrong. He has literally helped millions and millions of cancer patients all over the world.

The documentary really doesn't make an attempt, at least it seems to me, to paint him one way or the other; they did a good job of talking to people who would say good things and also some people who would never say good things. It was well presented on both sides for you to draw your own opinion
