2020 Schedule

When we’re strong enough to beat Iowa and Wisconsin, we can beat the other teams on our schedule also. They are consistently at the top of the west.

The real question to me is whether or not the gophers defense is going to be good enough next year to dominate the middle of the conference like they did this year.
What makes a special year is winning all of the 50/50 games

I think they are good enough next year to be pretty similar and win 8+

I thought Big Ten teams weren't allowed to schedule FCS schools any more? Tenn Tech must've been on the docket before they said that.

I know the Nebraska game on black Friday this year was an afternoon kickoff. I wonder if it will be the same next year.

I would think we are ranked pre-season.
If we beat Iowa and Wisconsin, we'll probably be top 15.
If we beat Michigan, top 10.

If we are at 7-0, it will depend who else is 7-0 at that point as to how high we will be ranked.

Nebraska should be 7-0 at that point so they would be a ranked opponent left on our schedule most likely.

I think they had that rule, then changed it to allow it once every X number of years.
Not sure.

They backed off of it when they went to a 9 game conference schedule.
With 5 road games in conference every other year it makes 2 for 1 home/road non conference not feasible and without FCS options buy games are too expensive.

I think it is unless both teams agree to move it to a night game.
I’ve gone to Lincoln 3 times since they joined the conference but it’d be hard for me to leave thanksgiving early

Next season sets up for an opposite narrative to this one - by the time the first CFP poll drops we'll know who the Gophers are and they will be battle tested. If it's another undefeated Gopher team on that day, we'll be top 4 for sure

Yes, same for me. I've been to Lincoln for the Gopher game every year since the Huskers joined the BIG. I'm afraid that next year, that string will end for me.

I see a minimum of 7 wins and realistically 8-9 wins next year. We will for sure take a step back in the WL column from this year. I will wait until after the spring game for my official prediction for next year. I had 10-12 wins projected for this year. I couldn't pinpoint where are losses would come from but felt certain we would at least lose a game. Im still more upset about the Iowa game than Sconnie game.

So what game do we get College Gameday for?
Week 3 Georgia is at Alabama
Week 3 we host Iowa

Week 7 we have Michigan
Texas A&M is at Auburn

Right now those appear to be the only two major opponents we host.

On a side note, I wonder what game will have the Red Baron Pizza special!!

If we win our bowl game this year, do you think we start next year in the top 25? if so, where?

I think regardless of the bowl we start in the 20-others receiving votes area.

enough star power to get consideration.

Have to keep in mind that teams like Miami, Nebraska, Texas, Texas A&M, USC, Washington will all likely jump us when they “Are back” after this offseason

We win Michigan, Iowa, & Wisconsin and have a full trophy case by the end of 2020

MN replaces Rutgers and PSU with MICH and MSU, keeps Maryland
WI replaces tOSU and MSU with IND and Maryland, keeps Michigan
IA replaces Rutgers and Mich with tOSU and MSU, keeps PSU
NE replaces IND and Maryland with Rutgers and PSU, keeps tOSU (Final 5: tOSU,PSU, IA, WI, MN)

All play five road big ten games
Non Conference
MN: FAU, BYU,
WI: App St. and Notre Dame
IA: Iowa St and Northern IL
NE: Cinci and Central MI

Thank you, this is a really good summary for what I would agree are our "main" division rivals.

How is next years any tougher? We replace Penn State with Michigan and Rutgers with Michigan State. Michigan State was probably playing like the 3rd worst team in the conference for more than half the season. And Penn State and Michigan are very comparable. I don't think it's smart to compare non conference opponents because some teams clearly get worse like Fresno State. Sure Purdue, NW, and Nebraska could get better or they all could get worse and fire their coaches for all we know.
I think the non-conference schedule is significantly tougher next year. BYU is better than any of the 3 non-con foes we played this year, and while I don’t know what FAU graduates, they are 9-3 and well coached by Layne Kiffin. They are definitely better than any of the 3 non-con foes we played this year. Hopefully Kiffin leaves and FAU is rebuilding and breaking in new stuff when we play them. Yes, we should win both of these games, but you better be ready to play 4 quarters, especially against BYU. Come out next year like we did this year, and it could be a different story. We are a better team now, so hopefully we get through these games with less drama than this season.

- Tenn Tech is FCS, and far worse than South Dakota State.
- Florida Atlantic is comparable to Georgia Southern, in my opinion. They were only upgraded from the Sun Belt to CUSA recently, and it mainly had to do with location/markets.
- BYU is probably better than Fresno, but not by a huge amount, in my opinion. Definitely not last year, but this year Fresno regressed. I think it is reasonably comparable.

Week 1: Florida atlantic : Should be cake. 1-0
Week 2: Tennessee Tech: Should be cake. 2-0
Week 3: Iowa! Floyd and a new Iowa QB. We should win with our returning offense. 3-0
Week 4: BYU. Hmm, a non-conference decent opponent. I say we win. 4-0
Week 5: @Maryland. I think this is far enough into the season for Md to suck. 5-0
Week 6: @ Wisconsin!!! God, I hate them! Toss-up.
Week 7: Michigan!! Jug!!! I'm just not sure here. gut says loss. 5-1
Week 8: @ Illinois. This should be a win. 6-1
Week 9: @MSU. I say we win this late in the season against defense only team. 7-1
Week 10: Purdue. Favored Gophers win! 8-1
Week 11: Northwestern. See similar result to this year! 9-1
Week 12: @ Nebraska See us beating them silly. 10-1

So, 10-1 with a toss- up game against Wisconsin. Toughest Games in order:

@ Wisconsin
Michigan
Iowa
@Illinois
BYU
Purdue
@ MSU
@ Nebraska
@ Maryland
Northwestern
Florida Atlantic
Tennessee Tech

Thank you, this is a really good summary for what I would

and they may be 7-4 when we play them in the last game.

My biggest hope for 2020, is that Nebraska stays down. Somehow ... it just doesn't seem possible, with the level of players they get. Yet it keeps happening.

Nebraska rising back up to what they were under Pelini is one more mouth to feed in the division. Hopefully the wins would come out of Iowa and Wisconsin.

Next year's schedule is way more difficult than this year's schedule, but the Gophers are a better team right now than they were expected to be at the beginning of last season.

I most certainly didn't say there was no way they could improve. I did say that Fleck failed this year, and I don't think he would disagree with that.

If Fleck wants to compete for national championships then he shouldn't be getting blown out by Wisconsin at home w/ a B1G title game on the line.

I'm also not well-versed enough in SP+ to predict what's going to happen to Minnesota's SP+ rating over the summer, but I imagine it will nosedive given Minnesota's below average recruiting and lack of recent success.
Breaking news. College football is inconsistent.

Correct, we can only speculate. This year I thought we were a 3-9 win team and we won 10.
Next year new players step up, home games become road games, and road games become home games, new injuries, etc. etc. I'll predict 7-10 wins next year.

Hopefully 8 regular season wins will be the expected minimum for next year. Was thinking 7 this year, which was one more than the previous. So let's go with a floor of 8, and hope for 9 maybe 10!
