With LOI signing day less than a week away, I would like to know who you would try to sign from the state of MN? Let's say for discussion, you go after the top ten. Who's on your list this year?
Here's mine:
1. Seantrel Henderson Cretin-Durham Hall 6'8" 301 OT
2. Jim Gjere Irondale 6'7" 275 OT
3. Lamonte Edwards Woodbury 6'2" 215 LB
4. Tobi Okuyemi Wayzata 6'3" 250 DE

6. Beau Allen Minnetonka 6'2" 300 DT
7. Zach Vraa Rosemount 6'3" 200 WR
8. Conor McFadden St. Thomas Acad.6'3" 250 OL

In case you are unaware we have Jimmy Gjere and Lamonte Edwards already. Zach Vraa is not a Division 1 caliber player. A few of the others have chosen to go elsewhere and a few we were never after unless they are walk ons. As for Henderson we will find out Wednesday, I am cautiously optimistic.
 

Minnesota has a lot of high end talent this year but it isn't a particularly deep class so I don't think there are 10 players worth offering this year.

I don't think Minnesota has 10 players worth offering next year either but we've already locked up the #1 prospect for 2011 in Tommy Olson.

I'm a big supporter of recruiting Minnesota. However, the kids here aren't as prepared coming out of high school to compete in the Big 10. Kids from Texas, California and Ohio have played way more football by the time they graduate. I may be mistaken, but MSHSL forbids spring practice for football, right? They should really consider giving schools the opportunity to have maybe a couple of weeks of limited practice. But I suppose the time and cost have kept them from doing so. Does anyone know how MN HS football coaches feel about spring practice. Basketball has AAU and various other camps occupying them. I can't imagine a dozen or so practices in April would hurt.

Minnesota has no rules vs. summer football practice. A coach can coach everyday in the summer if he chooses. Don't blow 'spring' practice out of proportion.
 


No to spring practice

As an ex-coach of many high school sports I would be against spring practice. It would get in the way of baseball and track. Some athletes may even choose not to go out for the spring sports to concentrate on football. That would hurt a lot of schools ... especially the smaller schools who need multi-sport athletes to fill out their rosters.
 

I would have offered Tarpley. If he's good enough for Stanford, he's good enough for us.

That's it, though.

Yeah, I'm kind of surprised he didn't get an offer.

Speaking of 2011, who are the other top guys? I haven't heard much. I know Peter Westerhaus has got an offer. I wouldn't be surprised if Ross Windfeldt get's an offer. Otherwise I haven't heard much.
 



WR Jameer Jackson from Osseo is a kid to watch, big body 6'3" 218 was all metro as a junior.

I like him and hope we offer. He may end up playing somewhere other than WR in college though.

Spring football had no effect on my second sport (Soccer) that I played in the Spring. In fact my Soccer coach was the varsity Offensive Coordinator.
 

I hate saying this again, but.............

The kids here have spring practice and college scouts from coast to coast come. Every day. We have weightlifting year round. We run 7 on 7 passing league all summer. We go to team football camps (Clemson is a lock). Kids go to individual football camps. Our kids are strongly encouraged to participate in track. Many play baseball or golf. Many play basketball and wrestle.

Our conference puts out more D1 football players than the state of Minnesota.

Another difference. On Wednesday nights churches come in and provide a good meal and a little fellowship. Teachers volunteer their time and come in and tutor players. We don't have a problem with our kids qualifying. We love them and they achieve. It isn't so hard when you care with your heart. These kids are all at risk. It is tough growing up out there and some strong role models and structure doesn't hurt anything.

We don't call our lawyers when the team says the Lord's Prayer before a game or again after the game with the parents, friends. and former players on the field in the end zone. Life is a little different here and I like it.

It's the culture. A football culture that you can carry throughout life.
 



There you have it, Minnesota doesn't churn out great talent because they don't say The Lord's Prayer before the game.

There's also a kid from the new East Ridge HS who plays RB. Can't remember his name, but it sounds like he's a legit D-I prospect

Way to snuff out future input that may be interesting and meaningful to others who come on to this site.:rolleyes:
 

Tommy Olson looks dominate already. He plays mean, in his video he pancakes every one of his guys and finishes blocks 15yards away from the line of scrimmage.
 

In years past who have the Gophs missed out on? I'm not talking about the MN kids that left for other FBS schools like Notre Dame, Fl. St. etc. Ramon Humber is now with the Colts.
