Lots of hilarious Reusse nuggets when he was on with Mackey and Judd a few minutes ago:

• Western Michigan got Row the Boat copywrited, so we need a new thing
• I just have a personal problem with Bsers. This is not because I'm 71, when I was 38, I was fighting Lou Holtz. I don't like crazy men. I think what we should all know, this was in effect long before the hiring was made. All you had to do is look at Kaler's unhappiness with the Gophers tremendous performance vs. Washington State.
• Les Miles flew into our town on his own dime - maybe he did. I'm sure he was shocked that he didn't get a lot of offers. He could have gone to Purdue. Coyle didn't want someone bigger than the program, if you hire him, he's the whole athletic department. They had this kid lined up for a long time. They went into a complete panic when they saw the reaction from the season ticket holders after the scandal. The Gopher hardcores will love this guy, they Bsers, I'm not saying he's Brew, he can coach.
• His WR's in the Cotton Bowl were tremendous.
• You may lose 3/4 players…but the idea there will be these mass defections. As soon as he gets the players in the room, the players at Western Michigan love this guy. They need to have some inspiration to play, and he's got it going for him. He'll sell tickets, and then we'll find out if there's substance there or not.
• Very unpopular with his colleagues at Northern Illinois including Jerry Kill.
• He basically passed on Purdue, he said no because he thought he had a shot at the Oregon job, but he didn't get an interview there. One of the hang ups here, the last few days, and why they were willing to talk to Les Miles. They said he overplayed his hand at Purdue.
• I think he's more over the top than Brewster. He's got more substance. Brew was a charade, this guy's a lunatic.
• He could go in a room of Donald Trump supporters and get them to vote for Hillary instead of Trump. He's going to do, what they needed to be done, in a complete panic about ticket sales. 25K people showed up for NU.
• Kaler and Coyle were sitting there hoping to get beat by 3 TD's vs. Washington State.
• Another reason they got rid of Claeys is because he's a big fat ok guy, not a big fat lovable guy. No one wants to talk about this. The number one ism in this country is fatism, it's not racism or sexism.
• There's no population base in the world that loves this stuff more than Gopher fans.
• Judd - Claeys should have come out dressed as Santa Claus on the back of a motorcycle and he would have saved his job.
• Recruiting wise - he's capable of everything.
• He's contrived/goofy…Les Miles is just goofy. I think the public thinks it was Les, or this guy, it was this guy.
• The one guy that didn't have an agent in all this is Tracy.
• I looked on Gopherhole, I love to look on GopherHole "WE GOT PJ FLECK!"
• You guys have to give me permission to be nauseated. It's not because I'm a crusty nasty 71 year old, I was a crusty nasty 38 year old.
• The sad part was, Sid wasn't here to defend Tracy Claeys, and 24 hours later say "this is the guy to take us to the Rose Bowl."

"This guy's a lunatic. He could go in a room of Donald Trump supporters and get them to vote for Hillary instead of Trump."

Oh Reusse. How you've turned your "crusty nasty" ramblings into a decades long career, I'll never know.

Pretty good stuff.

God I love Reusse. Hillarious

I mean...he's probably right on most of this.

I don't think you understand what you just read. Reusse wanted Fleck.

I don't read Pat, gave up on him when he quit writing. He used to be a great writer. No matter what he writes he'll be back on the hate train pretty fast.

As for who wants who, none of these guys have a position, they just go with the latest hot take. They'll dump on the same guy they love the next day if it gets clicks.

He was unpopular with other coaches? Is that a typo, or is that what Patrick really said?

I love Reusse for his insights and willingness to go against the grain. I'm not big on BS, but in reality that is part of what a college coach needs to be.

We now have a young enthusiastic coach who has shown to have success in other levels of college football. I just hope he can bring that here.

After all, as a wise man once said, "It ain't bragging if you can back it up."

Glad he enjoys the Gopher Hole. Have to admit most of us, including me, are a bunch of Gopher rubes and proud of it.

So Fleck and the staff at Northern Ill. Kill and crew did not get along ? First I heard of this, does anybody have any details on this situation. Would love to hear them.

As for who wants who, none of these guys have a position, they just go with the latest hot take. They'll dump on the same guy they love the next day if it gets clicks.

Or become BFF--look at Barreiro & Glen lovefest.

Again, it's hilarious that Reusse labels somebody else a BS'er.

Doogie said the same thing a couple of days ago. Said that Fleck and Kill weren't as close as you'd think, or something to that effect.

can we get a dedicated 'reusse is a disgusting slob' thread pinned to the top of the football forum?

Not surprising to me. It's probably something akin to having different motivational styles.

This was all solid gold and right on point. Reusse may not have a lot of fans around GH, but he knows his sh!t. He can BS and spout off to sell papers, yes, but he can also sit down and seriously talk sports like nobody else in the TC market.

I especially liked the insight on how displeased Kaler and Coyle were with the Bowl win. I'm sure that's 100% true, and let me be the first to say fvck those guys for rooting against our team just to make their lives easier. Oh well...I couldn't have disliked them more for how they handled the Claeys dismissal, so this just solidifies my opinino.

Reusse said nothing negative about Fleck. Said he can coach. Did call him a lunatic, but from what I've seen, that seems pretty accurate. Found this two nuggets fascinating:

Very unpopular with his colleagues at Northern Illinois including Jerry Kill.

Gulp. But Jerry and co kept him around 3 years (?), so they obviously liked what he was doing on the recruiting trail. Very interesting...

He basically passed on Purdue, he said no because he thought he had a shot at the Oregon job, but he didn't get an interview there.

This I've been VERY curious about the past 48 hours. I'd love to know the real story on how this all went down...

Not IMHO. Reusse is good for getting valid perspectives that don't fall in lockstep with fads and hyperbole. I like him because, right or wrong, he stands by his opinions. That is something sorely needed these days.

Well too bad for JK. It was JK's decision to step down and move on, so move on.

Huh?

I don't think anyone thought JK was going to make the decision. Too bad for what? People are just saying that they didn't get along.

I liked Jerry and I wanted to keep Claeys, but can any of us really picture Jerry Kill, Tracy Claeys, Matt Limegrover and PJ Fleck sharing a plate of nachos?

They are way different, I can't imagine they would mesh. That doesn't mean that one is high character and one is not. They're just different.

JK throwing a tantrum over Claeys' firing and saying he'll never come back to the U campus made it look like he still wanted have some kind influence here.

How? He thought a friend of his was railroaded (he was) and he thought the AD also tarnished his name (he did).

Kill didn't throw a temper tantrum, he was pretty calm.
