Grayson Allen is a ....

Cut him some slack. He's basically a Good kid...just wound a little tight. And he comes from Good stock: grandfather - George Allen the football coach; father - George Allen the Governor of Virginia; great-uncle - Steve Allen the comedian; cousin - Irwin Allen the film producer/director; 2nd cousin - Tim Allen movie actor. Someone in his family invented the wrench. He is unrelated to Sean Hannity.

ESPN is fiercely inserting this info into its next broadcast packet right now.

Entitled little prick who is enabled by his coach.

"We have had the opportunity to thoroughly review the incident involving Grayson Allen from last night's game against Elon," coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a statement issued Thursday morning. "As I stated last night, the incident was unacceptable and inexcusable. He took an important step last night by apologizing in person to Steven Santa Ana and Coach Matt Matheny.

Enabling?

No.

He is a kid who has behavioral issues and needs professional help. I know it's hard not to but ripping him is unfair in my opinion, because his behavior is not willful on his part. It is a disorder that needs treatment. When I saw his reaction on the bench, honestly my first reaction was that he wasn't upset at the refs or anyone else but himself, and he is incapable of controlling his emotions.

And how do you know that?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you don't have any formal education in the mental health field (if I'm wrong though I apologize)

I myself probably, not 100% sure, have a better grasp on this stuff than a lot of people here. I've been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and PTSD.

Been seeing therapists/psychologists/psychiatrists and been involved in many mental health programs for the last 9 1/2 years.

Making a claim that his behavior is not willful or that he has a disorder that needs treatment based solely on his on the court is beyond silly. You would need to learn about his entire lifestyle before you could even begin to make a diagnoses like that.

Being competitive and a dick on a basketball court in no way means you have a "disorder that needs treatment"

Also, I have been reading some other posts in this thread and that to paint things in a black and white stance regarding if people are responsible for their behavior IF they have some type of disorder...well like everything in life there is a broad spectrum on that. There are severe cases of behavioral disorders where people cannot control themselves and in those cases it does get tricky in determining the punishment...but that is a completely different topic.

On the off chance that anyone is curious as to what BPD and PTSD is like, feel free to PM me.

I believe the suspension has come about because of the criticism from fans and the media. Otherwise, why would they have put him back in that game?

What was there to review? It was obvious he did it on purpose when it happened. Then he had his temper tantrum on the bench afterwards. That should have been enough to sit him down the rest of that game and then figure out what they want to do after the game.

I mean...Coach K let him back in the game, scolded the media who suggested he suspend him, and then caved the next day once public pressure reached a boiling point. Kid should have been suspended after the second incident.

This is the same coach who had no problem lecturing Dillon Brooks from Oregon for shooting a 3 at the end of their win over Duke (and then lied about it until the video came out). Dude is a walking hypocrisy.

Yeah...nobody who comes from a privileged background would ever grow up to be a dick.

It's never happened before.

Immaterial. Coach K eventually suspended him soon after the incident.

Would it have been "better" to sit him right away? Maybe, but people don't always think clearly under pressure and in the moment.

How can you bash Coach K for not benching him right away and then not applaud him for suspending him indefinitely? That's illogical.

I wont argue against Coach K being a prick, but in *this* instance I think he handled it relatively well.

God forbid we should hold one of the best college coaches ever a high standard. He's plenty ready to lecture and discipline players on other teams in the moment.

Yet he failed during this game, and then had the nerve to say it was because he "didn't realize the traumatic event Grayson had just been through," as though it was anything other than one of his kids being a dickhead

No one is infallible. I don't know why I even have to say that.

Keep bashing the guy who suspended his player indefinitely

1. Grayson should have been suspended after the second incident.
2. Grayson should have never came back into the game after this incident.
3. Coach K scolding the media after the game for suggesting a suspension is a bad look, particularly considering his past willingness to lecture other team's players (and lie about it).

Is it the end of the world? Obviously not, but he deserves the criticism he's getting for it. In a couple of weeks the focus will be squarely on Grayson anyway, and life will go on.

Alright, whatever. Neither or us will move the needle against the other towards changing their opinion.

It's the holidays, I wont drag this on further.

Have a good holiday and best wishes to everyone:)

Duke lost to VA Tech today. My guess is Allen will be back pretty quickly.

I sure hope to see the headline: "VT trips up no. 5 Duke in ACC opener".

I am not a fan of Allen but I think this claim is over the top. I didn't see anything wrong in the video going for the ball. The other issues, yes, unacceptable. This latest deal is a non event.

What I see is a player taking an unnecessary shot -- that in the instant he thinks he can get away with. Just like the nut-kick the other day. Just like he pretended his trips were natural action (on one trip they were ahead by what? 20 points-- why is he tripping someone?)..and undercutting a player going to the hoop. Guys go into a bench and everyone usually tries to hold on to each other to cushion the falls....that's not what he does. He gives 'em a shot. Not a huge deal unless its done by a psycho with a track record.

+1. I have no agenda here with Allen, yet I clearly see a blatant move to shove the guy. This kid has some serious issue. He's unstable and looks like a troubled kid. Worse than John McEnroe back in the day.
