KiAnte Hardin, Ray Buford, Dior Johnson -- served with restraining orders, won't play

This is what I would do if I were the players legal counseol

This reeks of a Judge on a power-trip/axe to grind with athletes/the U. It is extremely common for Judges/Referees to grant an order and eliminate unduly burdensome restrictions (workplaces, public areas that both parties are likely to be in) in Ex Parte HRO's. This is deliberate to make a point.

Also, Mr Hutton could file an emergency motion today, asking for the Judge/Referee to modify the order to allow the athletes to be at the stadium (but still have no contact with the petitioner) immediately, and then the motion will be addressed at a hearing within 1 week. It is called an Ex Parte Motion for Relief. However I think it is unlikely that the Judge will grant it, since this type of motion is usually used to enhance restrictions, not lessen them. But I have seen it happen before.

This should be happening today a petition for Ex Parte Motion for Relief by the attorney Hutton, he should have if not already done this.

Only at the U of M. Happy homecoming!

Exactly.

Does anyone have any more questions why MINN cant consistently compete?

This is the type of thing that is turning off even diehard fans. Sick of the garbage as well as the U being holier than thou.

MN law was modified, to make getting ROs easier to obtain for people that truly need them, some people have turned the process around to use it as a weapon against others. The problem is, the procedure to fight them while fast in legal terms, will cost these players a game. It should all be cleared up, or at least an acceptable work around in place, by the Purdue game.

if we knew the facts of the case we could have better opinions. I don't have facts but this is not a common sense action by the judge who issued the RO. Clearly miss use of the intention of the law and one sided. If the system chose not to charge then end of story, that's life. From what we know at this point that's the way anyone should see it

Does anyone know if this person has had any interactions with these players since the last home game....No, you don't know? Okay, carry on.

Has anyone ever heard of players not being able to play because of a restraining order?

Is the person with the restraining order on the side lines? If not what would it matter?

Here is all that has been publicly stated:

The restraining orders are requested by the alleged victim to be two years in length. In the restraining order against Johnson, the alleged victim said Johnson “taunted [her] on the street” at some point after the incident.

Only at the University of Minnesota. You can bet your next paycheck this wouldn't happen at any other Big Ten school. And we wonder why our athletic program is at the bottom. Well in the hxxx is our Athletic Director? I was under the impression that he was a coaches administrator. Seems like he is hiding under his desk. Come on Coyle, support the programs that are paying your salary.

Is there any doubt now that several of these players will be transferring?

You want the A.D. to tell Claeys "to hell with a court order. Play them Saturday!" You're pretty sure that will end well then?

What would be different elsewhere?

You think say Iowa would show up in at the Hennepin County Courthouse and wave a magic wand?

The Kill/Claeys era has been full of potholes. Will we ever have a 5 year run where there is nothing that undermines the football program? Mark Coyle must be thinking. What the "F" have I gotten myself into.

Exactly....Coyle has nothing to do with this, the U of M has nothing to do with this. Now you can flip it and say only in Minnesota would something like this happen. For example I don't think there is a judge in Tallahassee Florida or a place like Lincoln Nebraska that would ever consider granting a restraining order like this but this one is not the U of M's fault and there is nothing they can do about it at the Athletic Department level.

I mean I suppose Claeys could tell the kids to ignore the restraining order and suit up anyway....then we could all watch the cops show up and lead them out in handcuffs....

That doesn't scream "vindictive" to me.

agreed. if johnsno taunted her on the street after the incident, then he is fricking idiot and deserve to be embarrassed like this. if the above is true, then he doesn't deserve to wear the m. again, if true.

It says one of them taunted her.

We should file a restrainting order against Wisconsin's D and O line.

Short answer, no not really. The sad thing is, in my experience, more than half of Restraining Orders filed are done mostly out of spite/the other person filed one on them. People learn exactly what they need to say for them to be granted and then use the courts as a weapon.* There are people out there who have filed literally dozens of restraining orders. I say this is sad because there are a lot of situations where an individual really does need protection, but their order isn't granted because they haven't been through the system enough to know how to manipulate it. For a pro se party, they can legally file whatever they want in a civil case, without any repurcussions (except attorney's fees, which are 99.9% of the time never awarded in HRO's) unlike in a criminal one.

PSA- If you are ever in a situation where you need a restraining order, hire an attorney.

*Not saying this is what is happening here, I do not know specifics of this situation, just speaking from general experience

This is extremely on point. This happens all the time in family law cases. Spouses and Exes use HROs as a weapon. It's an extremely effective and often times unfair tool. They make a mockery of the system. At the same time, HROs are necessary in many instances as well.

I haven't the article because I'm out of views. But if only one has allegedly taunted her how can she have a restraining order on all 6?

Well for one Florida State they have Delvin Cook on tape beating some bitches and he still got to play. Jameis Winston. Hell before it got exposed Baylor had a whole system in place. Jerry Sandusky got away with dittling little boys for 35 years at Penn State so yes things are a bit different in other places

None of those involve a protective order ... I guess maybe some folks want that here... ?
