Was giving claeys a chance.
Played to lose in the third quarter.
Horrible defense from a defensive head coach.

Lost to an aweful penn state team.



I am ready to make a real hire rather than an interim

Undisciplined bull**** today. I'll be back cheering next week but we should NOT have lost that game.

Claeys is overmatched. Sawvel is terrible.
 

yeah we're going back to Detroit. Only because we play 3 more games against the crappiest teams the Big Ten can offer. 6-6 will be so much fun.
 


im not really too worked up over the loss b/c lets be honest - kill/claeys braintrust has a ceiling irt success in the league and id say we've probably hit it.

im all in for lane kiffin and will unabashedly boost for his return to minnesota to get the dick swinging swagger and offensive production we need to be a good instead of mediocre B1G team

im even gonna change my avatar just gotta find my fav lane kiffin pic hold on guys
 

We were clearly the better team. Despite giving up big play after big play and getting some bad calls, we still had the game won. But we blew it, and that falls on the coaches.
 

Funny that we lost on a Run up the middle. I guess our defense must not see that during the week.

It would be reactionary if I wasn't upset with the hire last fall. Thought it was a bad hire then. Gave them a chance, now done.

Will win at least 5 because Rutgers and Purdue are awful.

I think they probably win 2 more and go 7-5. Won't go to Detroit because of new bowl arrangements
 

That was a bad loss. I also hate reactionary posts after losses, but if this staff can't compete this year when will they?

I don't think it was a bad hire. He kept the best recruiting class in 25 years together and he was clearly our most competent assistant coach. But we're just not very good. Our offensive line isn't any better, and our defense can't stop 26 hail mary passes in a row.
 

Might as well let them finish the year. But I don't believe the staff will ever be able to take us above that consistent middle-of-the-pack status.

Even with his rocky track record I believe Kiffin will have earned his way back into a top echelon head job from his work at Bama. He won't have to take the first mid-tier job that comes up, and that's what we are (at best).
 

I am never one to complain about a coach. Cleays is not a head coach and this program is going to go downhill if we don't find someone else soon. We have a talented group of kids who are not being led or coached well.
 

I definitely think the seat is getting warm for Claeys. I like the progress we've seen under him and Kill, but it feels like we still have a ways to go. If recruiting were better, I think he'd have a better chance at seeing next season, but since it isn't, he better get some big wins this year.

If we do can Claeys, I just hope we go with a proven commodity.
 

I wish we could have Nebraska's schedule.

Yup. I kept typing in the game thread and chat that we were the better team. It was clear. We dominated the first half, and the score should've ben on the order of 17 or 20-3 at half, except for some horrible penalties and broken coverages. MN was superior in every facet. Then that joke of a 3rd quarter, and of course the last 2 min. We're just not very good. Sadly.

The offense was fine other than the bad INT. 31 first downs, 469 yards of offense.

Correct. If your aspirations for the program are 5-7 to 8-4 seasons, give them a lifetime contract.
 

So many things wrong defensively that I don't have enough space. 1). You are rushing 4 and dropping 7. The offense has 5 possible receivers, why in the h--- don't you have someone spying the QB? They don't get the long,long,long QB scramble. 2). As mentioned last week, we are playing some decoys in our secondary. Until the U Administration gets off their butt and releases the 4, we will continue to struggle. No police charges, why the delay?
 

The only solace is we win going away if we have Hardin and Buford.
 

Still waiting for all 3 parts of the Gophers game to be good at the same time. Not great...but good.

This is probably football revenge for the 1999 victory. We're now 1-1 where "winning" really counts for both teams.
 


I'd say if we can't get to the QB just rush 3 and spy that *******.

I'm frustrated because we've come to expect competency under Claeys and this effort today was not that.

Not ready to write off the season because Iowa looks beatable and some of these problems are fixable. The over-aggression, susceptibility to screens etc and the complete failure today are very, very troubling. Is Sawvel as stubborn as Kill was on offense. Claeys may need to assert himself.

I'm certainly not impressed with our offensive line. Playing against 1 true freshmen,and 2 red shirt freshmen, we certainly didn't win the LOS. Sad
 

Claeys just didn't want us to be distracted by keeping any trophies in the trophy case to make us extra hungry for Iowa next week. That's what I'm gonna tell myself
