pitino's saving grace =

decisions

I think the key is Coffey. Could you talk to him and his parents and suggest if a coaching change was made would he de-commit? How tied is he to the U or to Pitino?

The other issue is Hurt is the only incoming shooter and we are losing King on an already horrible 3 pt shooting team.

I'd agree.

I think that is the worry about this team right now, are the playing bad enough that Coffey would decommit?

King is playing like a warm body, so we gain a shooter if Hurt is still committed.

Pitino will get next year, he may not get the following year, but with the way he structured the roster, he clearly put all his eggs in next season basket, plus the next AD whether it's Beth or someone else will have time to evaluate the program and go out and get their candidate. Pitino saving grace is his recruiting class, getting Coffey and Curry to commit ensured him another year regardless of what happens this season. I am very concerned about him being the long time answer, but I am also willing to see it through

I think there more worried about fixing their current problems. There was a GH interview with him during one of the non con loses, S.Dakota State maybe where he was asked about their struggles and he said I wish I could help them now. That tells me he's a safe bet, plus like I said earlier this isn't football it's much harder to decommit in hoops, we would probably let him or anyone else out of their LOI but we don't have too

Who in their right mind would come to Minnesota to play for this joker? I'll be absolutely shocked if we don't get a recruit or two or ? that doesn't decommit.
All 3 recruits have already signed their letter of intent. Coffey, Curry, and Hurt have all talked about how young this team is and will get better. Also pretty easy for coaches to sell to these guys that they can come in and make a difference.

Lucia...

So if Beth fires Pitino, what do we do with Lucia? Or who gets fired first? Whose attendance is poorest? Not a good situation for Mens winter sports...

Incoming recruits want to play right away. Based on the current results it is possible we only have two current players that start next year: Mason and Murphy.
I would expect Coffey and Hurt to start immediately next year and Curry plays almost all of the time, since Murphy is always in foul trouble. Hurt can shoot and rebound. Having him and Murphy both available for rebounding will be a huge improvement next year. Gophers will be much better next year and will be back to a 8-10 win team the following year.

I wish I could have your rosey outlook on this.

I agree we probably only have 2 current starters that will start next year. I see Coffey, Fitzgerald, and Lynch joining Mason and Murphy as starters. While Curry and Hurt will join Dorsey and McBrayer as solid options off the bench. As bad as things are right now I could see a huge turnaround next season and am still gonna hold out hope for that.

As lousy as it is I agree that next year will be a huge turnaround Grit your teeth this year and enjoy the win over Wisconsin later this season!

So in 2017 we're expecting ~6-12 followed by 8-10 in 2018?

ad situation.

if there was a full time ad, pitino may be gone this week. the last two games show that this team has completely given up on him. 25 at home to northwestern, down 35 to a bad nebraska team. this is disgusting.

pitino should be grateful for the ad mess.

Nonsense!

I expect better than 6-12 next season it may be extremely optimistic but I think with the class coming and 2 transfers eligible next years team could be around 9-9 in conference play.

Seems like high school kids have more sense and sensibility. the 4 out 1 in motion offense obviously needs the right players and maybe we need to switch to the dribble drive motion offense, but that means we need a skilled player at the 5 and a couple of players that are consistent shooting the 2 or 3......Oh well, let's all relax and see what next year and '17 brings......

The win against Clemson shows there is talent to at least be competitive. A good coach would bring out that talent consistently.

Agreed.

People need to stop comparing to other coaches. It really has only been 2 recruiting classes....first year was nothing but left overs.

That sounds like a reason NOT to keep him as coach.

Mason - Junior
Coffee - Freshman
Fitz - Junior
Murphy - Sophomore
Lynch - Junior

MacBrayer - Sophomore
Dorsey - Sophomore
Curry - Freshman
Hurt - Freshman
Gilbert - Sophomore
Buggs (Maybe) - Senior
Gas - Junior

And that will still get the "young" tag and the "wait till next year line" if they don't make the dance/perform exceptionally well. Which will really get the Pitino detractors up in a fit.

I really would like to see Pitino get Mason and Konate to their senior years. I'm as disgusted by this year as many of you are, but I think we would be making a mistake to cut ties right now/year end, he still has a chance to right the ship. Continuity with this set of classes will benefit more than any possible deficiencies Pitino may have on the court as a coach may hurt us in the short term.

Lynch will be a Junior next year.

I agree mostly with this but if we aren't 8-10(with NCAA) next year or better in the BIG how can one make an argument that he should be kept on 1 more year when the arguments that were made about Tubby(no winning BIG records, recently stagnate offense...ect) are starting to become reality for Richard? in my mind the only thing that could save him if we went 8-10(or worse) is if he landed Trent Jr. and then he would be given 1 more year and we would all have to hope we weren't like LSU this year(in fairness LSU is turning it around?)

I think it just depends on what the games look like next year. If they go 8-10 but lose a number of close games, it's hard not to believe there would be continued improvement the following season because they return everyone.
