I love these Kill quotes

Jerry is not God...

He is not perfect. Those of you criticizing his comments or his attitude are not relating at all. Walk in his shoes for a minute. In his wildest dreams as the coach responsible for the performance of his team on the field, he couldn't imagine the offense playing like they do on game day. That is frustrating! You think they haven't already taken steps to correct it?
Jerry Kill knows more football that all of us combined. Bottom line we ARE 2 and 1. We will win next week and be 3 and 1. He expected us to be 4 and 0. He expected us to be able to run the ball. He expected the line to be much better.

BUT, We have seen 5 pre seasons with Jerry. We are not going to roll over anybody...we do enough to win. We do the same thing in most Big Ten games and then we have a couple Big Ten games we dominate. It's how he coaches.

On a side note: Nobody is giving the Kent State defense any credit. They were well prepared and executed very well. You had a kid with two interceptions, a strip and a return for a touchdown. That's a big time day. The people who don't think teams improve the most following their first game maybe were not watching...Kent State played great defense today....they did not in week one.

The Gophers will get the offense figured out. Did you see the touchdown to Maye? We got the plays...we just don't show them. It's a philosophy.

We'll be fine.

His philosophy had him winning a squeaker by 3 over a team when we were favored by 24? Why wasn't Leidner made available for post game comments? Something doesn't ring true.

That is why we have had such success in bowl games ...............I will continue to enjoy the defense expect nothing from the offense and if they by some miracle make a bowl, i will have something to look forward to in the dead of winter.....Pretty sad expectations in season 5 after a Jan 1 bowl.

I get the impression you won't enjoy much this year.

1. No, as I stated, Jerry is more surprised than you are about the offense. He was positive we could run the ball effectively. So far we are not. If we could run the ball without showing anything...we'd win by a greater margin. Again, Kent State played great defense. Give them some credit.
2. Because he has a coach who understands what the questions would be and doesn't want to add to the doubt the offense already has in their performance.

Why do people keep saying or thinking that Kill is not trying to put more points on the board then he has in the past? Kill talked about a hurry-up Offense before the TCU game. People here said he was blowing smoke. That he'd NEVER do that because of course, "we have seen him in the past" and he doesn't do that!

That hurry-up offense showed-it in the first and second games. Have people already forgotten about that?

We're still being told that Kill and Company are only trying "to do enough to win". That they aren't even really trying on Offense? Is that it?

Last year they barely threw the ball in the Non-Conference Season.

This year Mitch has thrown the ball 107 times, completing 59 for 614 yards and people are still saying that they aren't trying to do things differently, put the ball in the air and put more points on the board?

Really?

Not only did Kill talk about the hurry-up this past week he said again that the Gophers "should be trying to put 35 points and 400 yards of Offense" every week. Sports writer said he talked about 40 points but don't think that was correct.

So the "rational people" are saying Kill is trying to do anything differently this year. That he was being "evasive"(?) (more polite that calling him a liar) about the no huddle Offense. Then he must have never said those things about points and yardage? And all those passes flying out of Mitch's hands were what? An illusion?

Maybe, rather than all of...that, just maybe Kill is being honest! That he honestly is trying to open things up and it's not getting the results he wants and his frustration isn't with all of the bleeps here on Gopherhole, but that things aren't going the way he wants them too. Oh, and the trolls sending those crass messages that he eluded to. Yeah, I think that his response to that was honest too.

He's trying, Mitch is trying and the team is trying. Despite all the "experts" who tell everybody otherwise. Whether there is gonna be any personnel changes or not is actually a good question to ask. Don't know the answer yet, could find out Saturday.

His history says he can get it done. Odd that his "defenders" keep saying he isn't even trying to.

Nevertheless, he's not behaving with the media the way his players need him to. Telling people he should be fired does not inspire his team. Period. Don't defend dysfunctional behavior.

ICELAND...if you are talking to me...what Coach Kill says (or any other coach) isn't necessarily what they do. If you think all plays in the playbook are open in every game for Jerry Kill...you have not been watching.
Some coaches use it all and say you can't stop this. That is not the philosophy I see with Jerry Kill...he saves stuff to run at the right time nobody has seen or rarely seen. You can't possibly tell me you watched today and don't think we were ultra conservative the last quarter a half?????? Playing hard, trying hard, expecting to get first downs...absolutely. Exploiting weaknesses? Being creative? Spreading the defense out? Using anything but power? NO

Just saw kill interview on field right after game. Said if we don't get better "we are in trouble". He's not in denial. That's all you can ask. He's trying to fix this and he will.

Say, you weren't of the guys who told us the "hurry-up" would never happen are you?

60'S GUY: If you think "BUT, We have seen 5 pre seasons with Jerry. We are not going to roll over anybody...we do enough to win." and Kill hasn't been trying to open things up and put more points on the board then he has in the past Non-conference Seasons than you, and others, have missed most of the first 2 games.

No, while I didn't miss that last Quarter, you seemed to have missed most of the first two games. "You can't possibly tell me that you saw the first 10 quarters of the year" and you thought this was business as usual?

Unless your memory is telling you that they put the ball up in the air over a 100 times in the first 3 Non-conference games last year and got 600 yards of Offense out of them. For you that "is just trying to do enough to win?"

There, feel better?

I see your point now but we are talking about different things. I was talking about today and past pre seasons. I want to believe we were doing all we could to beat TCU game one this year. Colorado St largely so as well.
We have not played two teams that good in the pre seasons prior. We typically play teams we can beat staying vanilla like we did today and have done in previous pre seasons. That's where I'm coming from.

It's all about the QB. We need a passing threat so the other teams Defense can stack the box and blitz all day because Mitch Leidner can't pass the ball. You need to try something else to see if it works because it can not be worse then it is now

Why do people keep saying this? Don't say such stupid things. It could clearly be far worse "then" it is now. We lost at home to a bad I-AA team less "then" 5 years ago. We have fielded QBs worse "then" Mitch Leidner in the recent past. Stop being ridiculous.

I like Kill. I trust Kill for the most part. I'm glad we won no matter how ugly it looked. I do not like listening/reading Kill's quotes when he is being a baby. "Maybe I should be fired" is being a baby. He should really stop saying crap like that. It's pretty embarrassing imo.

We are winning because of the defense. The offense could be a little worse than yesterday, see TCU 2014, Iowa 2013, etc but the difference this year is playing two bad opponents in Kent State and a rebuilding CSU and and then a decent but not great TCU 2015 defense. The frustration is understandable. Where fans part ways is how Jerry will change things.

So you can tell me you watched that offense yesterday against the worst team on the Gophers schedule, and thought this is an offense that will win more than 2 Big Ten games? Because that offense won't, and will be Jerry's worst team at Minnesota unless something is fixed.

I say this because we have a team with a lot better talent and the quarterback is holding everything back. If you had a decent quarterback we beat TCU and crush our last two opponents. If we had a decent quarterback last year you beat Wisconsin and maybe upset Ohio state at the bank.

Agree on all points, totally. Nonetheless, saying moronic things like "it couldn't be worse" is not only not factual, it's childish ranting and does nothing to advance the discussion.

Who said any of that? Is it possible to win less than 2 Big Ten games? Why yes, it is in fact possible to win 0 or 1 Big Ten games. Could it have been worse yesterday? Indeed, we could have lost the game. The fact that saying "it couldn't possibly be worse" is a completely idiotic statement should be self-evident. Further, I will bet you any amount of money you want that this will be a better team than the 2011 squad. Any amount - you name it. As Ogee has already stated, the pattern is the same every year - we do the minimum amount that the coaching staff feels we need to do to win in the non-conference games (if we blow someone out once or twice, it's a bonus) and then ramp up the complexity as the conference games hit. It's frustrating to watch as a fan, but the pattern is well-established and I very much doubt that they will ever change it. Do you think that the same team that lost by 6 to TCU is going to win 0 or 1 Big Ten games? I mean, really? Nothing like overreacting to a sample size of one game and not considering any external factors, amirite?

It was a bottom 3 offensive performance in the last 5 years, so it's safety within the tolerance of "couldn't get any worse". For me that was marginally worse than Iowa 2013, making it the worst performance offensively of the Kill era. The only way it gets worse is with a 3rd string QB who looks like Spurgeon Wynn or how Kent State looked yesterday on offense.

He's not great or even good, but the sad reality is that he's the best we have. I wish that we had someone better, but we don't. Whining about it for multiple days solid after every game isn't going to solve the problem.

No, if it were the bottom offensive performance of all-time (not bottom 3 in the last 5 years), then one could say "couldn't get any worse". That's how absolute statements work.

The offense was a little worse in last year's TCU game (I realize the opponent was much better in that game).

By statistical measures, Leidner is doing better as a passer than he was at this point last year. He completed 63% of his passes yesterday. Given the anemic running game yesterday, he should have been throwing more. As bad as the offense was yesterday, we probably wouldn't be quite as miserable about the game if Still doesn't fumble after that catch, the offense scores a touchdown on that drive, and the final score was 17-0. When the offensive line was doing its job during that last drive at Colorado State, Leidner looked great.

dpodoll68 is right. Minnesota should have better options at QB on their roster but they don't so there really isn't a good alternative to Leidner. Croft might be better in the long run (and I think he should start being groomed as the backup), but it's likely going to take him some time to surpass Leidner.

How do you know if you don't have better quarterback when you don't play them? You see some of the passes Leidner has thrown? Those are the easiest throws and he still can only complete 63%

Pretty sure it's a figure of speech. Quit being so literal.

We've been here before with that question. You do realize they practice for many hours every week right? #Gamers

It's gotta be the worst figure of speech ever. I mean it really can't get any worser can it?

Listening to Korzo this am on espn1500.......yes he can rant at time. Anyway he went off pretty heavy on Kill's meltdown. Especially the 'fire me' and the 'we don't have an AD right now' Said people are extremely happy with him but have a right to be disgusted with yesterday and he acted childish. 'Was a slap in the face to Beth(can't think of last name) interim AD. Said he owes an apology to everyone.

Also said the media have all supported him other that one columnist that thought he should be fired for his medical issue.
