What grade would you give Gophers defense in win over Kent St?

A+

Under 100 yards of passing given up.

A-...the only redeeming part of the painful 4 quarters I witnessed

Not sure how anyone could give the defense anything but an A or A+. They pitched a shutout, Kent State got across midfield like once and was never a threat to score of offense.

As highly regarded as the Gophers defense is, they did what they should have done against a terrible Kent St. team. The same team that only scored 3 on Illinois who was blown out today by an average North Carolina team. The Gophers D also didn't create any turnovers.

B and only that low cause they whiffed on several turnover opportunities

A

Not sure how many drives Kent State had, but they didn't cross the 100 yard plateau until very late in the 3rd quarter

Essentially pitched a shut out. No turnovers was the only negative, but not much more you can ask a defense to do

Really? C? You were expecting a lot more from them? I'm guessing your not happy with your teams very often.

I didn't expect the Gophers to give up more than 3 points to the worst team in the MAC coming into today. Your expectations are obviously different.

My only issue through three games is the defense can't get penetration when it matters. It happened again today when they allowed a 1st down after 4th and 1 (or 3, something like that).

The D gave up 0.

Right, I expected them to give up 3 or less and they did that. I also expected them to force turnovers, have more sacks, and possibly score a defensive TD, because that is what an ELITE defense is supposed to do against a team like Kent St.

Illinois defense is much worse than the Gophers and they had a far better day against Kent St.

Pressing the QB for most of the game was a problem, but like you overall a A- sounds right. Reading every week about how people expect every Offensive player to catch anything near them no matter how badly thrown, means that we should give an A+ or A when the Defense drops two pretty easy interceptions.

That D looked damn good today though.

Didn't know a defense could give up less than 0 points. Glad you're not my coach

Or you just changed the narrative because you didn't even know it was our Offense that gave up the 7 points...

I watched the game...and even told the person next to me the only way Kent St. was going to score was on a turnover. As I've said over and over I expected the defense to completely shut down this putrid offense. Sorry I have such high expectations for our elite defense...

I get the defense should of probably had a turnover, but come on give up 0 points and you give them a C? The least anyone should give them today is a B

Solid A. A+ if they got any turnovers...but KSU didn't do anything today.

The question addressed the defense and they didn't give up any points today. At this point of the season no one can really know which is the worst team in MAC. If one blowout loss makes you the worst team in the league, then Minnesota should have been the worst Big Ten team after opening conference season with two of them two years ago.
