Much needed reinforcement for recruits with the departure of Norwood. I love the move and love the timing even more.
 


I haven't been following this real closely. Why just one year? Trying to keep the contract term longer than the duration of the current recruits?

I'm guessing one year to keep Kill, recruits, fans, etc. happy and wait for the new AD to negotiate a longer term deal. I recall Mason saying something to the effect that Maturi was not really his boss until they negotiated an extension but let's not rehash how that ended up working out. The point is that the one-year buys time while showing commitment to Kill and others while the eventual longer term deal will provide a chance at demonstrating unity between Kill and the new AD.

The U never should have fired those five professors to pay for Kill's salary. That's where they went wrong. ;)

This keeps him under contract for the next 5-years. Isn't that a long-term deal?

The Gophers enter the 2015 season on the heels of back-to-back eight-win campaigns and last season earned their first Jan. 1 bowl berth since 1962. Kill was named Big Ten coach of the year, the first Gophers coach to win the award since Glen Mason in 1999.

"I've talked to many Gopher fans who are very excited about the direction of our football program right now," Goetz said. "I share their excitement."

In February, Kill received a one-year contract extension through the 2018 season and an annual salary raise from $1.2 million to $2.1 million in 2014. He had been the lowest-paid Big Ten head football coach but jumped sixth in a 14-school conference.

I almost NEVER read the comments in the Strib. It is a complete train wreck of misinformed or politically motivated opinions.

I know. I KNOW! But sometimes my mouse slips and I find myself in the comments section. These are my first world problems.

I decided to read the comments...wow, people in this state just do not get it. They simply do not know how college athletics works.

One of the comments was even complaining that the U "doubled his salary"!

(re: what Kill would owe the U) Not numbers, but a description of how they would be calculated. The new section 3.6 is simplified a bit and approximates the previous agreement.

Really, this revision doesn't do much except gives him another $300k per year (effective 7.5 months ago)

If the program reaches those lofty goals Jerry Kill will get a bronze statue. Though they way some view Kill they believe he has already done enough to warrant a statue.

I've tried to calm the anger toward GW at times because I've appreciated some of the scouting info he's brought on the basketball board. This, however is just blatant trolling with the sole purpose of drawing people to his sub-standard blog site (on which I haven't clicked in quite some time). He will no longer receive my tepid support. He is ridiculous and should just stick to the basketball scouting info or stay on the Marquette sites. I've officially lost patience with this punk and will no longer waste any time or energy thinking about him or his opinions. The goal of trolls is to generate an emotional response. GW will generate only indifference from me from now on.
