Who do you want to be the next Gophers AD?

Terry Ryan chimes in:

Twins general manager Terry Ryan said he would support Gophers baseball coach John Anderson to be the University of Minnesota's next athletics director if he wanted the job.

Anderson, the Big Ten Conference's all-time leader in baseball victories, has been coaching Minnesota since 1982. His ex-Gophers teammate is current Twins manager Paul Molitor.

Anderson, 60, from Hibbing, Minn., has not said he's interested in replacing Norwood Teague, who resigned last week.

"I know John and have forever," Ryan said Thursday. "If he wanted that job, that would be kind of an interesting situation because he has been over there for the last three or four choices.

"I don't know if that's something he wants to do or (whether) he wants to remain the head baseball coach. But I would say if John wanted to do something like that he would be very well received around this community because he's well known."

Go Gophers!!

I agree with that John Anderson would make a good AD at the U.

He doesn't have athletic director experience but he knows the University well, the politics, and is well liked by boosters. I pick him because I think he would be fair to all coaches in the department and not short change anyone or there program.

Doogie mentioned Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson who is a U grad

I could live with this name also, if John Anderson isn't considered. I want someone that is going to put U athletics and the student athletes and coaches first not some no nothing SEC or ACC Blowhard again.

You could argue the baseball program has fallen behind its peers led by younger, more innovative coaches. He doesn't strike me as the guy that wants to fly all over the country raising money.

I have no damn clue.

The priority of this job needs to be fundraising because it's going to save the U a TON of money to not have to finance facilities money. The new AD can literally save millions in interest payments if they can appeal to the fickle donor class.

Having said that, 'rich guy looking to expand his sphere of influence' is a terrible qualification for running for AD.

I trust that Kaler will make the right decision if for no other reason than he's a competent guy who knows why he erred the first time around. It's not because of 'flat and mega tongue' either, but because he hired a guy who's back slaps felt like they were coming from a car salesman instead of a buddy.

Exactly. Hell he won't even get in his car and drive a couple of hours to recruit baseball prospects in his own state that out of state programs will. He appears to be and has for several years been coasting to retirement.
