I must have missed the posts that painted the two whistle blowers in either light. And, since I haven't heard or read their names, it seems appropriate steps have been taken to keep their identities from being made public. In this day and age, when it's nearly impossible to keep secrets from the public, I find that remarkable, and credit should be given to the UofM for their efforts, thus far. They deserve credit.

Damn. What a creeper this guy is. To have his behavior be so whacked and so sketchy that multiple females became seriously fearful that he was so out of control that he might actually follow them home, wow. I wonder what it must be like to go through life striking members of the opposite sex as being a potential rapist?

What a scumbag. Don't know if he's been charged with a crime or even can be, but that type of sh*t warrants it. No place in this society for behavior such as that.
 

We are lucky that Teague is gone, hopefully he will be long gone soon.

Norwood Teague hated being here and complained about winter a lot. He Teague resembles these idiot remarks and we are lucky to be rid of him. Rayno is not piling on she is bringing to light that this was a pattern of behavior and not just a one time incident from our former athletic director at the U. What he may have thought was just normal courting behavior crossed the line if you read the whole article, she told him to stop bothering her and he didn't and was a persistent jerk that even touched her inappropriately. Just think if some dude was treating your actual daughter that way that Teague did how you would feel? The sooner we move on from this non-professional athletic director the better. He in no way represents the values of the University of Minnesota, it's alumnus, students or it's people.

Next athletic director search, let's not use the same search firm that led us to Norwood Teague, just saying.
 

I am sorry that Amelia had this horrible experience, and I appreciate that she had the courage to come forward now. This could and should be a learning experience for a lot of us.

This story is just appalling. I've been hard on Amelia over the years. I didn't always care for her writing or her reporting that much. And learning this story makes me feel bad that maybe some of the times I was making fun of her spelling or grammar errors on twitter, or making fun of one of her columns on here, she was dealing with a really stressful and difficult situation with a man who basically had her career in her hands. It's a learning experience for me to try to be a little more understanding of people in the future.
 

I have seen that 1,000 yard stare, the woman with little or no attention span, long periods of self refection. It was a long time ago but it as real as today. An outing like she endured combined with cyber stalking or harassment can terrorize you and drive you into in a deep depression. You can be paralyzed with fear. Anyone who wants to argue that waiting was somehow cowardly or even opportunist has never met a woman who has been assaulted on harassed. The ability to find your senses in that depression, and finding someone to talk with who will not condemn you takes time. It can take years. And then you can decide what you want to do. I would like to know about any referrals she received after meeting with Human Resources. And once they were in possession of her report, what did they do?
 

If nothing else, the Rayno article makes it impossible for Teague or his defenders to claim that the recent incident was a one-time thing or an aberration, born out of one night of drinking and bad choices.

Once the Teague story broke, I think a lot of people were asking the same question as I was: is this the only time Teague has done something like this? Rayno knew the answer to that question, and chose to tell her story. As a result, Teague can never claim the recent incident was a one-time thing. He has been "outed" as a (possibly) serial harasser.

Now, the next question become this: are there any other victims out there? and the big one: did anyone at the U have prior knowledge of Teague's activities.

Hate to say it, but if anyone at the U knew about this, and kept quiet, the U could be facing a situation that will make Clem and the term papers look like a minor problem by comparison. I will end with this: if the U finds out that anyone knew, and kept quiet, they need to be fired on the spot - up to and including Kaler.

Yes, it could get ugly, if indeed there was an intentional cover-up. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm not going to jump to any conclusions, but it certainly seems that an independent investigation might be in order. I agree that transparency should be valued and anyone who may be shown to have stayed silent should be in jeopardy of losing their job.

Ms. Rayno's story may be the opening to something bigger that none of us rubes would have known about. I guess time will tell.

Ok, we need to calm down. The Rayno stuff is bad but on its own would not lead to Teague's dismissal. That is probably why she held it. If the Strib goes forward then Teague gets a private dressing down and everyone moves forward… unless the STRIB publishes and everyone here goes crazy attacking Rayno/ STRIB (don't deny- it would happen).

Like it or not, as far as I can tell, Rayno did not have the smoking gun, she just had evidence of a creeper. Look to the left and look to the right because there are a ton of creepers out there.

As I said, if Amelia comes forward with her evidence without corroboration of the other two, this site will be 80-20 in favour of Teague (he was just flirting etc., don't blow it up too much etc., at least he was not Joel Maturi etc.) She needs the other two for her complaint to have validation.

I agree that there were probably suspicions but how do you go beyond that? Hire a PI on your own AD?

TL; DR. Teague is a creeper but apparently, hopefully, not a predator. Time to move on.

PS Likelihood of Maturi being seen as one of UM's better AD's has gone way up in the last week.
 

As a female, when something like this happens you feel scared, alone, powerless and embarrassed. You are ashamed and question why did this happen to me. This isn't the kind of attention that makes you feel good or pretty. She did right by going to HR and a friend and even they all told her to wait. That happens a lot in the sports industry- which I have been involved in for almost four years now. No one wants someone in power or a figure on the top to go down or to be seen in bad light, especially when it is their own team. It's more common than anyone knows, and it is sad that we still live in a time where women are told to be hush-hush about it and to not take a stand. It isn't as easy as "why didn't she just say it when it happened." Just take time to think and understand before you post or say anything insensitive. You don't know how it feels.

It appears some folks at the strib knew and kept quiet. Shouldn't we be indignant over their decisions to keep quiet?

Teague had no defense or defenders at least that mattered. Anyone at the U like a janitor? Outed the man is history? I have seen him compared to Bill Cosby along with his misdeeds compared to rape. He is a creep but a serial anything might be pushing. it The acedemic scandal and this are like apples and oranges and at this point it is not minor compared to what we know about Norwood's behavior. I really doubt if anyone was naive enough to think this was an isolated incident. The ramifications over his actions to the victims play a part as well. In as job security, promotions the like that he could have used his power to effect. As far as Kaler it seems to me talking about him as an enabler is way premature. I believe he didn't know of Teagues behavior. Could people have suspected he was a would be womanizer who drank? Probably , Actually proof, reports like these he would have been fired in my opinion. I sure hope that is the case.

Thanks for sharing your insights. Unfortunately, a few GHs seem to dismiss Teague as some horny, old drunk. There is a lot more to this demented individual. As I noted in a previous post, this is about someone trying use their power and influence to psychologically manipulate his victims. I'm not suggesting Teague is a rapist but to illustrate my point, rape is not about sex, it is about someone trying to use physical and psychological control over another individual. When someone like Teague harasses a woman the way he did, I can't imagine the fear it must create for that individual. We should not question the actions or, if you will, the inactions of the victims. We should question Teague and anyone who knew of or worse may have enabled his behavior (I'm really hoping no one enabled him). Again, thank you for sharing your perspective.

Did you pick that up by watching "A Few Good Men" multiple times? I suspect next you are going t say "You can't handle the truth." My answer to that is that you don't know what the truth is.

Invading a woman's cab when escaping a pig is at the very least borderline assault via intimidation. Sending rude and graphic sexual texts to somebody is rude and idiotic. Continuing said texts after being asked to stop is harassment and he deserves to be fired for that in the workplace. Surprised he did not get his ass kicked. All this talk of victims and comparison to rapists and such is ridiculous. Nobody has come forward to allege rape or unlawful assault so why talk about it? NT has mental issues and needs serious counseling.

1. To make sure Teague isn't able to do this to another woman, ever. Or he won't be able to get away with it. Before Amelia's story, most thought it was just a drunken night, not a man that had a pattern of sexually harassing women.
2. So the victims can have their peace. If there are others, they have been holding this in...they probably feel shameful, like they did something wrong, and have this secret. This is a way of moving forward.
3. Because it's the right thing to do.
 

Someone who has never been sexually abused should NEVER assume they have a clue as to what it feels like. Judging Amelia is shameful. The real blame should fall on the Strib
