Why? Because this isn't about rah rah, let's get someone local. D1 sports are a big money business. I want the best possible person who will put revenue sports first and raise money for the U. I don't care where they're from. The provincial attitudes in this town disgust me at times.

This is so refreshing to read. I've been really disappointed in a lot of the reactions to the Teague resignation that have little to nothing to do with his poor behavior. Hopefully those in charge at the "U" hire the best possible person to put the revenue sports first regardless of their birthplace.

I believe it's Gene Taylor.
 



A former football player that I work with said she is married or has a partner. I cant remember which. He spoke highly of her.
 



Alan Page needs a new gig, he would seem pretty qualified.

She's Deputy, not Associate. I believe #2's get promoted to #1 often.

She was basically the COO of the department. She is the one who oversaw the day-to-day running of the department, and probably had the relationships with the associate ADs.

It was meant more at a poke at Mike Max (seems to enjoy covering d3 sports more than the Gophers). No disrespect to Mike Grant or Bethel AD. I would, however, prefer an AD that has a lot more experience running a major D1 athletic department than either of those two.

Now Sid on his radio show says it better be O'Brien as the new AD or they are in big trouble. So he's budding in where he doesn't belong. "I don't want to talk about any other names," he said. That night school diploma is really paying off, Sid.

IT DOESN'T MATTER.
This is basically a CEO level position of a major athletic program. I don't care if they come from Mozambique. I care that they are qualified to run an organization at the level of a major conference athletic program and all that goes along with that. That's what matters here.
 

I hear Bill Cosby is looking for new hunting grounds.

One of us is nice, but I want someone that is on the brink or a "rock star" at a major program. Not someone that raised a few funds for a basketball program. Running a d-1 power program is no small task. None of the local names have much, if any, experience other than Dan O'Brien. Kaler needs to be talking to power conference AD's and presidents to find the next AD.

"Rock star" AD's will never come (or stay) at a state university that has the level of micro managing oversight by the Governor and the State Legislature as the U. The U has never been free to disregard the views of the politicians who run this state. When politicians start threatening to cut the U's subsidies the Board of Regents always rolls over. After all, they owe their board appointments to those very same politicians. That is the main reasons beer is now sold to everyone in the stadium, and women's athletics and other non-revenue producing sports are as important as they are at the U. And that is not going to change whomever is hired as the new AD. Women donors and supporters of non-revenue producing sports are not going away. The track & field issue is a perfect example of their influence.

Correct. AD at a major D1 institution is no small task. You can't just grab anyone to do it. Hire the most qualified candidate unless that person is a badger.

The major purpose of the A.D. now is to raise funds. You think it doesn't matter where the person comes from when they are trying to get people to write that check? Your position is that it doesn't matter if the person has any previous contact with or knowledge of present and potential donors? You think that someone coming over from Mozambique who was a solid administrator, that would make him a big time fundraiser too? That theknowledge of the donor base and being tone-deaf to it and to ticket holders would be no problem at all?

That's what Kaler thought too when he brought in Teague. It was a big mistake.

They don't need to just start over, if not from ground zero, than at the $120 million they still apparently need.

Kill is not a local but as a football coach he's about as perfect a fit tempement wise as you'll get for Minnesota. While I don't support the only hire local sentiment the next AD needs to understand and fit into the culture of Minnesota.

Quite true, but even Kill took about half that first season before he got "the lay of the land".

This. The new AD doesn't need to be from MN but needs to fit MN culture. Another slick east coaster won't cut it.
