This needs to be the 4th quarter song...

Pregame field show absolutely is a must for the Marching Band, but honestly if the halftime shows went away, I wouldn't miss them much.

LOL - WTF are you talking about?

I am talking about the attendance the a major drum corps event at TCF Bank Stadium. I added a joke about perceived attendance for a Gopher football game in the past. What clarification would you like? Glad you laughed at the joke!

I thought jokes were supposed to be funny. There has probably never been a Gopher football game with an attendance at or less than 20,000 (certainly not in the past 60 years at least), making the "joke" nonsensical. Glad you could pump up drum corps while simultaneously ripping on Gopher football!

And we can't rip on something we enjoy from time to time?

The point of my response is someone points out that "marching band" events are only held at High school stadiums. I am pointing out that there are in fact large venues for these events that cater to large crowds and could even be comparable to a crowd for a football game.

You are probably right. The Gophers have consistently drawn more than 20,000 people for a game. And yet we spend days and countless threads griping about attendance, empty seats, etc. So, I made the comparison. I hope you have a wonderful day.

I'll enjoy the third quarter tunes, regardless of what is being played.

Listen, I like it when the band plays the rouser at football games. What I get tired of is the ranting on here from people who want all piped in music done away with and replaced with just the marching band. I'm sure that is a large faction of the fans that are closer to 80 than they are 40, but it doesn't represent everyone. People stay in their seats between 3rd and 4th quarter for the music. Most could not tell you if the band played or not at half time as they aren't engaged by it.

I've had kids in choir and band, my aunt played in the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and for the Santa Fe Orchestra. I'm not opposed to different kinds of music. When you play orchestral music you typically perform to a cone shaped area. A marching band by nature is moving around and in a large stadium the horns sound like crap to the 75% of the people who they are not facing and when they sit an entire game in the far end of a stadium they sound marginal to most of the crowd because they are too far to hear very well and if you re-pipe them over the speakers you start running into sound delay between the live and repiped music. Works much better in a basketball stadium because of the size.

20,000 people attending a drum core event? Please, there are only 3500 tickets sold to the premier event on July 11th

They might have 20,000 seats of the stadium set aside for this, but that's not the attendance.
Still plenty of good seats for friends and family to see their kids play.

2014 DCI World Championships attendance at Lucas Oil Stadium was 21,378 according to the DCI site.

The lucas oil stadium event lists 3000 corp performers as well. I would say a 7 to 1 fan to performer ratio keeps it pretty much in the friends and family range.

There are a lot of fans who attend that have no friend or family connection to the groups in performance.
