Would he take a shot during a passing drill?

I don't think he would pass it it a 3 man weave drill.

He was 4-7 today with 12 points and 3 assists. Not sure where the hate is coming from. Like it or not, he's going to have to be a key player for us next year. I believe with some changes of habit in the offseason, he can be a very good weapon.

Oh, come on. It isn't hate - its reality.
Even DD commented tonight that Morris wasn't passing the ball twice in the same possession.

I agree with you. In the off season, both he and Buggs should go somewhere to learn the fundamentals of defense. I can handle an occasional bad shot or forced shot, but his lack of defense is what gets me.

If you base anything on what dd says during a telecast, check yourself.

Chin up!

The most frustrating player I think I've ever seen in a Gophers uniform (I'm 41). If he slowed it down 1/2 the times I've yelled at him to "SLOW IT DOWN", we'd have 4 more wins. FACT!

It is NOT a FACT!!! It is your opinion, which you welcome to, btw.

Perhaps, but he is far more minus than he is plus....FACT? or fiction?

Thank you both for the good laugh. That "Chin up" comment was classic. Right up there with Bobby Knight's shot fake.

Stan, thanks for the poll. Ironically, Morris most classic move tonight may have been when he decided to forego an wide open three in an attempt to run over a defender down near the basket. That was a head scratcher.

Agreed. Despite all of the boneheaded things he did tonight, I still felt better when he was on the floor.

That's because his game is a tease. You can see that he has some talent and he's a "volume shooter," so some shots do fall, but he hurts the team consistently on both ends.

per Donnelly's 24 Second Shot Clock column:

9 - Morris continued his head-scratching decision-making on Thursday, most notably on a play early in the second half. The Gophers were running, and Morris found space alone in the corner. But when he got the ball, instead of launching a wide-open 3-pointer, he inexplicably drove the baseline and bowled over Ohio State's Jae'Sean Tate for a charge.

8 - "He's not passing twice in one possession, Mike." - ESPN analyst Dan Dakich on Carlos Morris. Indeed, Morris soon launched a wild shot that missed.

If I can give a teammate grief for being a chucker - which I have - then we can make light of Carlos in this forum. It's not hate; it's humor.

Was talking yesterday about how solid a decision maker Mason is. Carlos is the negative image of Nate.

There is also this...we ran plays for Andre and King to shoot 3's last night in crucial moments. If they catch and shoot they were comfortably open. They decided to pass the shots up and do something that forced someone else to take a contested two or turn it over. That is maybe more frustrating than Morris attacking out of control because some of the time he draws a foul and some of the time he scores. The other most common result is a miss, which they all do. But he makes 45% of his shots and his turnovers are very similar to Andre and Mo. Andre shoots a lesser % at 41, but only gets almost half as many steals as Carlos to offset similar TO's.

I still wanna know why Carlos and Buggs inbound the ball on out of bounds under plays?

If Pitino and the staff can improve his decision making, which I am not sure they can, he could be a great player. I think he will continue to be frustratingly good. He will make an incredible play one time down the floor and the very next time will do something stupid and leave you scratching your head wondering when he will rid himself of those bad decisions. I love and despise Morris pretty much every game.

What are his assists in the last 10 games..

Here's a comparison of Hollins vs. Morris for the last 10 games which is pretty fair because it includes part of Andre's hot streak as well as his cold streak:

Hollins per game stats
assists- 3
pts-12.3
TO- 1.1
fg% 41/111 (37%)
minutes 30

Morris
assists 1.5
points 8.8
TO- 1.8
FG% 31/67 (46%)
minutes 22

Both scored about the same per minute (.40 pts per minute)
Andre takes care of and distributes the ball better.
Carlos was more efficient with the shots he took

No doubt Andre is the better player. But Carlos has gifts that- if possessed by Andre we would be talking NBA. So there is more left on the table for Carlos if he learns to play the game better on both ends. He is gifted with the ability to make plays that a lot of guys can't.

Ohio State game

Morris' shooting: 7 + .5 x 2 = 8 shots; 12 points/8 shots = 1.5 points per shot

The team's shooting other than Morris: 53 + .5 x 12 = 59; 61/59 = 1.03 points per shot

Conclusion: Morris shooting was far more efficient than the rest of the team against OSU. That's not the only game where that has been the case this year. His 54% true shooting percentage for the season was very respectable.

His 6 turnovers were another matter.

I like Morris (although I liked Austin much better). He has athleticism, talent, and fight. Perhaps the coach can work on the mental kinks but he brings things to this team that a lot of recent recruits haven't.

Carlos reminds me of Chip Armelin in every way but body type (and I liked Chip). Even though they drive you crazy at times, they were often the only aggressive players on the team when they had the ball. If Morris had a visible "thought bubble" above his head while playing, we'd see how hard he works to talk himself out of shooting it every single time.

Agreed. I don't mind Morris' shooting as much as the turnovers. Sometimes just does some really weird things with the ball.
