How does wearing Iowa colors help the Gopher program? I may just be an old fogey, but this makes no sense to me.

It has to do with quantum mechanics / string theory. I don't have time to explain in detail now, but somebody on the forum will fill in the blanks. Off to The Barn!! ski-U-Mah

If you go to the game tonight and intentionally don't wear black, you are not a friend of this program.

If wearing Iowa colors is required for me to be a friend of the program, I unfriend it. No black for m!

We wore black jerseys during the 96-97 season...this isn't s first. Like come on guys...

Do the people that create these marketing ideas even go to the games, do they have any idea about their fan base, almost an insult to one's intelligence, I guess the school colors are now maroon, gold, and black, the it color will probably be something else next year, so much for an identity, hard for us old guys to change I guess.
I agree...field a high quality team, and stay with tradition, do you think wisconsin would wear black? A white out would be fine, and very appropriate in our weather :)

It's a great idea but execution is poor. They need to print black tickets, give out black shirts for free, and make sure the team's shirts have at least one pin stripe of both maroon and gold.

Yeah...I'm double dipping on the game thread:

We're living in a post-modern world of relativism. Black is relatively close to maroon...

It means the young pups don't like our school colors.

Too bad, they're very good colors.

It's more people like alternate uniforms. Creatively designed uniforms. People don't dislike Oregon football's colors, they like the alternate, creative, and cool designs.

It must be fun to be wearing black tonight because all the non black wearers all have grumpy looks on their faces. They must be Gopherholer's!

Pretty impressed with the crowd participation. Great turnout.

The blackout was a sign. We should all be in mourning for this team right now...

Blackout with blonde, white faced(lack of sun) Scanaduvians....Brilliant.:cool02:

Ha! I thought the same thing...all the white faces cancelled out the black.

But I predicted when they announced this that black wouldn't be impressive at all on TV, and IMO I was right. It looked flat and really you couldn't tell that the entire crowd was wearing the same color. That's why more TV-friendly colors like white and bright colors (like our neon gold?) are better for these types of things.

It looked pretty good in the arena. You could tell that the large majority of people in maroon and gold were old scrooges with the nicer seats, but overall the participation was very good. The upper deck was almost entirely black. I'd guess 75% participation.

There's a comment about race relations in there...but I'll leave it to Reverend Al... :p

I thought it looked good on tv, though Mike Tirico noted early in the game that the idea was not popular with some Gopher fans. I just don't "get" these people that can't see the bigger picture. It's not about "you" it's about what excites the players and students and what brings attention to the University. The crowd was great tonight which is a same because so many of you loyal fans deserve a MUCH, MUCH better product than you've been given post Clem Haskins. Dakich and Tirico almost said as much while praising the Gopher fan base when they were detailing the struggles of this program over the years.

There's always a few turds in the sandbox.

This thread is absolutely ridiculous. I can't imagine any other fan base complaining this much about trying something that recruits like for ONE game.

I thought it looked great - I loved that the cheerleaders, dance team and Goldy were all in the black t-shirts and looked great. It was fun!

Its a good looking shirt! I'll be glad when it warms up and I can wear it more. I hope they do it again next year, and that people quit whining.

How bout a neon green out? That would be fun, and we'd get to hear the same complaints all over again!

Seriously? Some 18 year old kid is going to pick the U because we had a blackout? That is absurd. Gold would have made sense and looked a lot better and still had no affect on recruiting.
