Q&A: Iowa Junior Brett Waechter Makes Second Visit to Gophers Game, Updates Recruitment

Brett Waechter, a 6-5, 255-pound junior from Hartley (IA) High, is one of the top players in the Midwest in the Class of 2015. Waechter attended the Minnesota games versus Iowa and Nebraska and talked to Gopher Hole about his junior season and the latest on his recruitment.

  

Gopher Hole: Have you had a chance to go to any other college games so far this season?

 

Brett Waechter: I went down to two Nebraska games and an Iowa State game.

 

Gopher Hole: You had an uncle who played at Nebraska, right?

 

Brett Waechter: Yes.

 

Gopher Hole: What other schools are you hearing from now?

 

Brett Waechter: Iowa, Minnesota, Iowa State and Nebraska.

 

Gopher Hole: Did you get a chance to go to many college football camps this summer?

 

Brett Waechter: Just Iowa State and Nebraska.

 

Gopher Hole: I know that you are only a junior, but what are going to be the main factors that make you pick School A over School B or C?  

 

Brett Waechter: Education, mostly.

 

Gopher Hole: Have you thought much about what you would like to major in at college? 

 

Brett Waechter: Engineering, probably.

 

Gopher Hole: I know that you are a really good student with a 3.95 GPA, right? 

 

Brett Waechter: Something like that. 

 

Gopher Hole: Have you thought much about camps for next year yet?

 

Brett Waechter: Yes, I don’t know what I am going to do yet for camps.

 

Gopher Hole: I know that you are playing defensive end. Are you playing any other positions?

 

Brett Waechter: Offensive tackle.

 

Gopher Hole: Do you have a preference, offense versus defense?

 

Brett Waechter: I have no preference. 

 

Gopher Hole: What position are most schools looking at you playing in college?

 

Brett Waechter: Offensive line.

 

Gopher Hole: What things are you working on to continue to improve yourself as a player?

 

Brett Waechter: Speed training and strength training.

 

Gopher Hole: Do you play another other sports?

 

Brett Waechter: Basketball (he plays center) and track (shot and discus).
