Here's my best failed prediction.

After seeing Chad Kolander's first two games as a freshman, I guaranteed to friends that he would be first-team all-Big Ten his senior year.

I thought Michael Bauer was going to be a first round NBA draft pick and I thought his career would be as good as Sam Jacobson's.

Go Gophers!!

After Eric Harris' freshman year, and to a lesser extent after his sophomore year, I was wondering what the heck Clem was thinking when he recruited him. He couldn't hit the broad side of a barn and had a really ugly hitch in his shot.

Oops.

Harris was proof that if you're willing to defend right out of HS, a coach will find a way to put you on the floor, no matter your offensive limitations. Obviously, Harris became a major factor for the Gophers in his final two seasons, and by his junior/senior year he was a reliable 3-point and/or free-throw shooter.

Well there was that time I said Devron Bostic would lead the team in scoring his jr year.

There's also a whole bunch(all) of 'pick the score' whiffs.

Back in the day after seeing a kid named David Washington play an exhibition game over Thanksgiving(only game I ever saw at Williams arena with my dad), I told Coach Kosmoski he was going to be a star. I don't think he ever played a game for the Gophers.

I thought Harbison was going to be a big contributor to the football team this year.

My biggest failed prediction was starting a prediction with the words "I think.....".

I'm with you on that one. He would have under a different system and coaching....I'm still convinced of that.

After the Gophers destroyed Illinois on the road last year to move to 3-0 in the B1G, I tweeted that this Gophers team was "legit and would easily contend for the B1G title." Oops.

I predicted that the 2010-11 team (after winning the Puerto Rico tip off) would go down as the best gopher team in history. Then nolen got hurt, devoe left, and hoff played point... Oops

Midway thru his junior year I thought Jim Peterson was a wasted scholarship.

I thought the 2009-2010 team would make the elite 8, than Royce and Trevor got in trouble.

Wow....reading these can really put a damper on your day...Ouch

With a FB bye this week, and no BB game for a couple of days, the damper is here anyway. This Thread is intended to confess, spill our guts, laugh at our silliness, and bide our time.

If you want excitement, try track pantherha(w)k down.

Clem's final year, I says to myself...I says, "This walk-on from Grand Rapids doesn't belong on the team. He won't last past this season"

"Shaka Smart is our next coach" - half the people on this board

I was at the Indiana/Minnesota game last year at Assembly Hall. I walked away from that game thinking we had a legit top 10 team.

I'm with you 100% on this one. I was with my Dad at an HP summer league game before Dusty's freshman year at the U. He looked completely lost and I turned to my Dad and said "I can't believe the U would even let this guy walk on." Then the scandal hit, Dusty dominated in the Gonzaga game, he became one of the most beloved Gophers in a generation and one of my Top 5 all time favorite players. The egg was definitely on my face.

Go Gophers!!

I wasn't saying I hated the idea of this thread. I was mostly getting at the fact that these are just reminders of all of the ups and downs the gophers bring to us as fans. They are always building us up but they also tend to tear us down. There will always be "failed predictions" in gopher sports, it's just a matter of when and where and who. I think that these "failed predictions" show how much love there is for Gopher sports so I am not contesting the thread. Just brings back the hard times that have kind of defined gopher sports...That's all :drink:

hoff would make the all-time starting 5 for the gophers - most GHers on this board.

I got a double whammy during the coaching search. Had info on Golden not leaving Temple only to get hosed when he took the Miami job. Then got hosed when Edsal accepted then changed his mind on taking the MN job (thank god, I love Kill!).

The only two times I had connections to inside info and both times a change of heart called me out. Now, I just make up **** to flame the board in times stress...more fun and less likely to get me sternly spoken to by dpodoll.

That said, my niece at Apply Valley said Tyus was wearing a Stanford jersey at school this week! ;-)

"Bucky is going to have a down year..." - me and many others on this forum just about every year. As much as I hate the Badgers and their coach, they are nothing if not consistent.

Is the Edsal thing a fact? I remember seeing him interviewed after they beat USF to go to the Fiesta Bowl and he looked like his dog had died and not a coach who just went to a BCS game. I figured that (how do I get out of this thing) what was going through his mind.

I said if Macura got a Gopher offer that he would definitely commit, so much for that thought.

I thought Michael Bauer was going to be a first round NBA draft pick and I thought his career would be as good as Sam Jacobson's.

Mine was close to yours.

I thought Michael Bauer was going to have a all-time Gopher great career and would be as good, if not better, than Sam Jacobson.

Devron Bostick is the one that my buddy still holds over my head. I saw him in high school, then watched him light up the HP Summer league and he was the JUCO player of the year-- how Tubby undermined his confidence to the level he did is beyond me. by the way - Devron tore his achilles tendon earlier this year,

I once predicted Dr. Don would become a good GH poster.:cool02:

Fact is such a strong word in the hiring of coaches. That said, I stand by what I said then and now, he verbally accepted the job and then backed out.

Maybe less prediction and more "wishful thinking." But you weren't the only one on this bandwagon.
