Stood to to toe with a top 5 team. Got a lot coming back next year. Probably deserve some abuse for losing all those close games but Gawd knows the Gophers don't want any part of three Rose Bowls.

They only got into two of those three because of Ohio State's cheating.
 

Let's see they scored 14 points against Stanford, finished the season 8-6. Played in the biggest game of the day and lost. Teams that brag about getting there are doomed to lose. Teams that are determined to win have a chance.

What you wrote is oddly constructed so its hard to know exactly what mean. If you are saying Wisconsin got into 2 of the 3 because OSU cheated, that's wrong. Wisconsin got into 1 because OSU cheated and Penn State covered up and because they smashed the rest and then beat Nebraska. Aren't you supposed to further dismiss this by throwing Russell Wilson in there somewhere. Here's the history for you.

2010 -- Wisconsin wins 3 way tie. OSU's wins were later vacated but Wisconsin was also 7-1 and was sent to the RB on tie breaking formula.
2011 -- Wisconsin wins BTCG v. Mich State. Ohio State was 3-5 in the B10. Wisconsin tied Penn State but beat them head to head by about 4 TDs.
2012 -- Ohio State vacates for cheating and lying to the NCAA. Wisconsin doesn't cheat and doesn't lie their way to the BTCG and scores 70 on the powerhouse from the legends or is it leaders.

Yes and they lost all of them in close exciting games to top 5 teams.

BTW -- the Minnesota v. TT game was the best game I've seen from MN in many years.

Put up 70 on a "powerhouse" lol? So that's what Nebraska was this year? Good grief... And I wouldn't call the latest rose bowl game an "exciting" game... Some of the most boring football I've seen as of late.

How can anyone rip a program that has won some type of Big Ten Championship six times and gone to seventeen bowl games the past twenty years? And has 80,000 rabid fans dressed in red every Saturday in a stadium with one of the liveliest atmospheres in the BIG?

BTW, I hate the Badgers but I am humble enough to give them their due.

The powerhouse thing was sarcastic although they did look pretty good against Georgia. My 7 year old nephew wanted to know when the Badgers play in the next Rose Bowl. He's not old enough to realize that they don't go every year -- they've just gone every year he can remember. Each game has come down to the last drive of the game. I guess you probably think that last years' was the greatest game in Rose Bowl history -- with all the offensive firepower -- so this one was pretty drab in comparison.

Agreed. And we didn't have a better team or season this year than the Badgers so I don't understand why we feel the need to have a thread taking shots at a superior team in our conference who just made yet another Rose Bowl appearance (even if it wasn't pretty).

Some on this board are funny. Wisconsin could have won those three Rose Bowl games and I'm sure the same people would still trash the program. But I get it, I'm sure if the situations were swapped their would be some on Badger boards saying the same things. Personally, I'd like to think that I could at least acknowledge the success and call it as it is. But whatever.

It will be interesting to see how the Badgers come out of yet another coaching overhaul and see how the Gophers continue to progress. I do think they are much improved from the Brewster regime and on a good path, though the B1G W-L record may not show that quite yet.

The rivalry would get even spicier if the Axe was a match up of two top 25 teams every year, and I think the gophs will get there. I hope the Badgers can stay there. We will see.

2010 was a three way tie for the title between Ohio State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin. Michigan State had a 1-0 record against the other two champs, Wisconsin was 1-1, and Ohio State was 0-1. Michigan State would have won a tie with Wisconsin because of the head to head victory, but they ended up at the bottom of a three-way tie because Ohio State played ineligible players. Their title was vacated, so only Michigan State and Wisconsin have Big Ten titles that year. Michigan State wins that tiebreaker and goes to the Rose Bowl, and admittedly Wisconsin would have still ended up in the Sugar Bowl or something. All this is assuming that Ohio State would not have gone 7-1 in the Big Ten that year without Terrell Pryor and Boom Herron and whomever else traded goods for tattoos, but you don't really even have to assume that, because Ohio State cheated, and thus, they did not win the Big Ten title that year, only Michigan State and Wisconsin did. It sucks most for Michigan State because a cheating Ohio State team cost the Spartans a BCS bowl bid. You could also argue that Penn State shouldn't have received sanctions because, while molesting children is a horrible, despicable thing to do, it didn't really give them a competitive edge, but that's another can of worms altogether.
