WVU Defense - the Bandit Position

Interesting tidbit on WVU's defense: They regularly play a "rover" type of position that is a modified Linebacker. It looks like their defense is fairly stout. They do better against the Run as opposed to the Pass. 35th in YPG Run Defense, 56th in YPG on Pass Defense, 49th in points allowed, and 75th in Defensive Team Sacks.

It seems like they telegraph their blitzes as they rank much less than average in sacks per game. It will be interesting to see WVU Bandit Football and how our offense adapts.

Any other insights on the Mountaineer Defense?

I believe their "bandit" position is just like a 3-4 OLB/DE type - - like Kevin Greene or TJ Watt.

WVU used to play a 3-3-5 with Rich Rod and in that the bandit was more of a LB/S hybrid.

The only thing can offer is that the Mountaineers appear to have a LOT of attrition due to portal and pros.

We at this point appear far more at full strength than their squad. This bodes well...
