WTF- Gordy Shaw and the Rainbows?

vikes trade randy moss to raiders. hope this helps.

wolves trade kg to celtics. hope this helps.

twins trade johan to mets. hope this helps.

I cringe when I read this: "In 2003, the Gophers set the Big Ten record for total offense (6,430) and finished with the fourth-highest rushing total (3,759) and sixth-highest point total (503) in Big Ten history." If we had any type of defense that year we are going to at least a New Years Bowl and possibly the Rose Bowl. That year was our best shot in the last couple of decades at least. Too bad Mase didn't like to recruit defense much.

I'd forgotten all about him being at Hawaii. It dos seem like a strange fit doesn't it?

Great coach and an even better person. My wife used to tutor his daughter, about the nicest family you could meet.

I completely missed that one - makes sense: he's back in the big time, more or less, plus as far from winter as possible. Wish Brew had kept him on and adopted this year's offensive philosophy back then. I think it was Gordy who said, after watching the Gophers practice the spread: "They won't win a single game with that offense." He was nearly right.

What, did he sneak into Minnesota practice? He was fired long before the spring practices. Don't think he has access...

Unfortunately for Gordy, that wasn't the only thing he said. He pretty well tarnished his reputation with most Gopher fans by publicly trashing the program all over town and on the radio airwaves during Brewster's first season. I'll never forget an inebriated Gordy Shaw calling WCCO's postgame show after Brewster's boys blew the big lead at Northwestern. Gordy thought it was incredulous that a coaching staff could blow such a big lead. The irony was that if only his own coaching staff hadn't blown so many leads over the years he would never have been unemployed that season to begin with.

For a "great person"...

...Gordy behaved very badly indeed. About as classless as I've ever seen a fired coach behave, in fact.

Good Luck Gordy

I totally agree, I knew Gordy for 10 yrs or more and wish him and his GREAT family all the best.

Gordy burned a lot of bridges here when he left. He's in a good place, as far from Minnesota as possible, and still coach college football. He did a lot of good things while he was here, but he also did a lot of damage, after he left. Given time, we'll forget the bad and remember the good, but until then, Hawaii seems like a good place.

Hold on against Michigan, beat Michigan State at home instead of having the post-Michigan funk and the Gophs are a 1-loss Rose Bowl bound team. Everybody else would have had two losses. http://espn.go.com/college-football/standings/_/year/2003

15 minutes of swing passes to Chris Perry ruined what should have been THE breakout season.

Seven years later and it still infuriates me.

I never liked Wacker or his staff. I especially didn't like them after Mark Dove the defense coordinator intentionally tried to hit me (on bicycle) in his minivan where Huron and University meet. I was just about to enter the intersection when he cut me off. In the passenger seat was Gordo looking really surprised when I rode up and gave them a piece of my mind. I remember saying something to the effect that "this isn't Texas." I was disappointed when Mason retained Shaw and glad when Brew showed him the door.

+1 I lost all faith in Mason after that season. If you can't get to the promised land after having a historically awesome running offense like that then you will never get there.

Mason said this yesterday on berierros show as Dan was going over his offensive accomplishments, Mason said, 'yeah, and if could play better defense I wouldn't be talking to you now'.
