WR Malachi Coleman Commits

I encourage you to check out his family history. In brief his dad died when he was very young. His mom, a drug addict, abandoned him and his sister when they were 5 and 2. Was placed in foster care system and bounced around. Taken in by the Colemans to prevent separation from his sister, and was adopted, I think in his teens. Is reportedly using NIL money to help kids in foster care system. I will really be pulling for this young man.

Man, it's hard to comprehend kids going through that stuff at such a young age. The general feel I get reading commentary from Husker fans is that he seems like a good kid who hasn't yet lived up to the hype, but they are rooting for him to succeed. I will be too.

I don’t get the excitement as a WR when in two years he couldn’t see the field at NE. There is a reason kids like him and Williams are leaving their schools. I like the signing as an athlete, but not going to get excited yet as a WR when he hasn’t shown anything.

I guess the hope is that they are from programs loaded with wr talent, maybe more the reality with Williams than Coleman.

His measurables (speed and height) make him worth the risk. We’ve had a lot of good route runners that can catch, but few with 4.38 speed. If he does bust at receiver, they can try him at edge.

Coleman was always regarded as a player who would need development, but the physical skills are off the charts.

This is a fantastic get. There is nobody on the roster with a higher ceiling.

This is the type of story that makes you happy that NIL exists. I have family that tried to adopt 2 kids from foster care for over 2 years and it was a constant struggle. Hope he stays til he exhausts his eligibility.

The dude is a freak. I am in now way advocating a position switch but his HS highlights on defense might be more impressive than offense. He is a really big/physical guy. He doesn't look like a WR just being fast off the edge (he looks like that but like he's also physical enough to play DE).

I saw on one account that he suffered from injuries a lot his two years at Nebraska. Hopefully he gets over that.

Sounds like that trio of WRs Kill brought in and redshirted. Looked great getting off the bus, but footballs bounced off their hands like five-year-olds in a bouncy house.

I saw some highlights of Coleman at Nebraska and they were great! Don’t forget about Lanier. He was compared to Bateman by some when they originally signed him.

Thanks for back story. Obviously has incredible challenges. I will be pulling for him, too. For his life. Not just football.

You are a party animal. Geezus.

He started 6 games as a true freshman. I’ve heard the plan was to redshirt him this past year.

But does he have the immeasurable? Heart, resilience, etc!
That is always the key with any player. You see guys with the physical tools who can't capitalize on those tools due to the other reasons.

Hasn't clicked for Coleman yet.....hopefully our staff can get him to the point where he can take advantage of the amazing physical gifts the kid has in terms of size and speed.
