WOW!!!

A guess on next year's roster:

1. Kyan Evans
2. Asuma
3. Durkin
4. JCJ
5. Viohola

6. Willis
7. Shinholster
8. Grove

9. Tomes
10. Omot

11. Mpoyi
12. TBD
I’m thinking you have Chadwick a lower than he will be used. He is a flat out man with a lot of athleticism. If he can catch a ball he will get similar minutes to what Grove and Shinholster get this year.

Grove needs to hit the gym with Chad!

Very possible. Hard to know where freshman will fit in. If Omot is healthy, one of Omot/Grove/Chadwick probably won't play much.

I guess it's possible Omot won't stay too, but I can't see him getting many better offers after two lost seasons.

Omot is not an option at the five. Chadwick, Cracker, and Grove are the guys with Viahola down low.

Omot is more suited to backup Durkin and be an undersized 4.

I agree, it is hard to tell what a freshman is going to do their first year. Thinking of Grove, he was rated fairly high his senior year of high school in Minnesota and we didn't get anything out of him until recently. I hope Otis is right and Chadrack is ready to go when he gets on campus but you never know. I think eventually he will do just fine.

I can see a pipeline from NC that would bring 6'10" James Brown to MN as a Big Ten center. He is not playing currently, he's a great kid, has good touch and a feel for the game.

What?!?! You’re reading way too much into reactions.

But let’s be honest. This loss sucked. For the first time in B10 play, we had the better talent and responded with a lousy first half. Kudos to the guys for rallying, but at the end of the day we did just enough to lose, which is now a pattern. I am still very bullish on Medved, as is nearly everyone here, but this was a very Ben-era style loss. If the board didn’t respond to this loss to some extent in the same way it responded to similar losses under Ben, it wouldn’t be right
Losing can become a habit. That is the part that concerns me.

Not to nitpick too badly (I absolutely agree it’s hard to tell with any young recruits, especially big men), but Grove and Mpoyi are not ranked too similarly despite being both 3* recruits. Mpoyi per 247 is ranked #147 overall nationally whereas Grove was the #65 ranked power forward and only the 9th rated MN recruit. We knew Grove was more of a project. Mpoyi might take some time but his ceiling is significantly higher.

The year one blues has got this board in a downward spiral. I'm surprised there isn't a "Fire NIko" thread yet.

FFS ..... Get a grip guys.

This guy can coach. He has had more injuries than I can remember this team ever having and he is still competing. (might have been a Pitino/Tubby year that was close)

We will be better soon.

ALL HAIL NIKO!
Agreed. But this is Gopherhole…down here… equivocation is god.

Transfer portal will be completely different this year for Niko. He won't being trying to advance to the Sweet 16 and kids now have a year to know that Niko is the coach at MN. I'd guess more MN kids look to potentially transfer back, and kids also got to see what Tyson did this year in this system.

You forgot Anderson. I am not sold that Evans is a fit next to Asuma, but maybe. I think that there will be at least three significant 25 minute + portal pickups. Niko is not going to settle for that starting lineup. He wants to win now.

With all due respect why not? It is the transfer portal era. Hitting big on a couple portal kids can get you there. I understand it isn't the sweet sixteen but Iowa State went from 2 wins to 22 wins. The only difference was the coach and the players he bought in. Slow playing is kinda dead. You can't assume anyone is sticking around anymore. I'd love for the core to stick around and get better but they need two players better than what remains in that core next year or they will continue to lose and they won't be close games.

This isn't pessimism. It is my honest opinion of the situation. I very well could be wrong and honestly I hope I am.

Maxy's sweet 16 comment was about CSU last year I believe. 2nd round loss to Maryland.

This time around he is the coach at MN right from the very start of the portal opening.

Not sure I see that unless there is a big jump in NIL. They have the ~$2 million they are paying Tyson, but some of that will go to bump up JCJ and Asuma. Unless they move on from a couple of Willis/Durkin/Violhola I don't see them having the $$ or minutes for more than one major portal addition.

Re-reading I see I took it wrong. Thanks for pointing that out. My stance is still the same.

Kyan looks to be a real option in the portal this offseason. Would like to see what he can do with Niko again.

That being said, I'd take a closer look at Freitag playing next to Asuma over Evans.

Again I don't see much reason to speculate on next year, but since some are. Id love to see Daniel Freitag back in the state. Didn't work out at Wisconsin but he's been very good for Buffalo this year. Combo scoring guard.

IF IF Omot is healthy he can give this team some scoring off the bench… 10 ppg.. IF
Can this program afford to risk even a nickel of NIL funding on a guy that simply can't stay healthy? Injuries can happen to anyone but there's a pattern here and we have very little margin for error.

I'm moving on if it was my call.

We gotta stop with this Omot stuff. The poor guy has lost 2 years, it’s crazy to project him doing anything. It’s like Eric Curry all over again.

Maybe at a discount rate… he takes a cut or moves on

I'm assuming he's fairly cheap. I'm fine if he's the 11th or 12th guy and costs less than 6 figures.

TBD has a lot of upside according to most recruiting sites. 😁

Not sure what the rationale was behind this thread, except trying to potentially troll the masses. Just a stupid take, nobody is seriously throwing the towel in yet on Niko.
