If instead of the Wolverines, it would have been the Gophers who won the national title in 2023, in addition to having won three consecutive B1G titles in that time?

NGL, I think I would be fine with it.

Yep. No one will care or remember in a few years anyway in todays world. But if it comes out that worse things went on like rape or violent crimes against women I would not.

But if Gophers won a natty and 3 B10 titles and later found out a coach was sleeping with an assistant I would take that.

I wish I had a higher moral character, but I'd take Natty #8. I'd probably give to a mental health charity to ease my guilt.

Exactly - hard to tell right now. Also, if PJ won a natty, he would be poached by a bigger program before something like this could happen here.

Yes, as long as those involved are fired and/or prosecuted for any crimes.

I don't have a huge problem with the Connor Stallings stuff - I think everyone does it and I would absolutely be 100% celebrate a natty won by the Gophers under similar circumstances.

I haven't followed it super close, but with the Moore stuff, I'm not sure what Michigan even did wrong. The fired him. They probably hate the way it went down, but they're probably ecstatic that they could clearly can him with cause (most UM fans thought it was only a matter of time for him). I haven't followed it super closely though, so if there is more to this than I am missing, I retract.

All of that to say, yes, I would absolutely be 100% okay with Michigan's level of corruption.

Where it gets a little trickier is if you're talking about Florida basketball type stuff, but I say that knowing I would likely not care if we were winning. Like, I would be fine hiring Kiffin or Urban.

So trickier, but still okay.

I honestly thought there would be more holier than thou posts in response
Part of the change in sentiment about this stuff is that it's no longer amateur athletics. When I used to be on my high horse regarding ethics of college athletics, I didn't care about it in professional athletics. Now, it's all professional.

If my team is paying a QB a million bucks, I don't care how good he is at math or if he's a perfect citizen.

If the scandal/mess you're talking about is Moore's improper relationship (for which there was no pre-hire track record), then yes, subject to the MaxyJr1 caveats that those involved are fired and/or prosecuted for any crimes. If the scandal/mess includes the Stalions improper in-person scouting/sign stealing, then no.

Moore violated school policy, happens all the time. You only get fired if they are looking for a reason, in my opinion.
The bigger problem for me is what he did to his family and now it has to play out in public. As I understand the arrest thing stems from behavior after he was found out.

Happening here?

Call me old fashion or whatever, but I disagree with this take. Why do we want to lower our standards as to our morals? That shouldn't change. Bob if you're married, would you do what he did?

I wouldn't do what Moore did. I don't think I could do that.
But I'd be just fine with a Stallings scandal and a coach that cheated on his wife and then melted down if it meant winning a natty and three B1G titles in the past few years.

If someone wants to know where I'd draw the line - probably something like happened at Baylor, where there were multiple rapists protected and a murder covered up.

Honestly I can live with winning seven eight, nine games a year and having a clean program. When you start compromising on morals in the name of winning that line in the sand tends to move further and further and then all of a sudden you're a Penn State fan justifying Paterno's silence and minimal effort on Sandusky or you justify UGA football drag racing issue where a staffer died or Brian Kelly sending an intern to his death in wind storm to film practice. We all want to win more but we all got to live with ourselves too. For the first fifteenish years I had no problem with the fall out on the cheating scandal, I thought we earned it, my only beef with it now is it's clear that other schools that have committed similar or worse offenses were not punished in the same way

Based on previous discussions I'm not shocked you are. I don't mean that in a bad way I just know where you stand on that stuff. As a current coach and a former player, I can say I wouldn't be ok with it.
