It is really frustrating that this hack continues in the footsteps of Reusse in posting negative information or stories without any context. Student ticket sales are XXX this year, which is low (no comparison to last year's). Beer at the stadium is $7.25 a cup (what is it at Target Field??). The "empty" $288M stadium (how much of that was actually paid by taxpayers vs the $1B Vikings stadium going up soon, and how many empty seats have there been there despite it being an NFL program). The U didn't offer beer to the common man until the legislators forced them (how many other B1G/NCAA programs sell alcohol in general seating, let alone at all??). The list goes on.
What is MORE frustrating is how many uneducated people there are out there that eat this crap up. They don't bother asking the obvious questions. When the student ticket story hit, I can't tell you how many texts, emails, or office visits I got poking fun at the situation. And not in good nature, they believed every misleading word the story said. The reason this crap sells is because people will read and believe anything. Unfortunately for us Gopher fans, we get the brunt of negative coverage in this town - it's OUR fault the Vikings didn't have a shared stadium figured out, the U is screwing taxpayers and students on fees to support the stadium, the U was an elitist group of jerks who wouldn't sell us proletariat folk beer, etc etc. For some reason people and the media make excuses for the Vikings (and their extremely rich owners and players), other publicly held organizations, and much more while they have a hard-on for railing against the U. It's so odd. Go to any other region or state and they actively WANT to support their big public schools because they all recognize the value they bring to the area. Sometimes I think we Minnesotans don't deserve the U.
