Wisconsin NIL Bill

Most athletics facilities are used by non athletic things as well correct? If this was just for football only facilities, I would agree that tax payers have been screwed.

Good discussion with a lot of good points. It's a new universe and since the paradigm shift I've always thought we're heading for a set of super-conferences that will dictate most of the whats and hows. I think that's going to take about five years.

The question is going to be which schools want to join the super-conferences. It will require investments and some states/schools will be fine with that and others won't.

#2 Gopher makes a really good point about upfront taxation versus backdoor fees. Fees are usually after-the-fact and far more arbitrary than putting the burden on the front end.

Before I have an opinion I need to know if Ds or Rs supported this, and I may change my opinion based on that knowledge.

At least with taxation, it was completed by an entity voted into office and the constituency can then take action upon re-election time.

A student assessed a fee has no recourse nor likely was even eligible to vote for legislators that selected/elected the Regents that were responsible for implementing it.

Agree. That is what I was halfway driving at. I've been around the legislature all my adult life going back to the 1970s and we want them to color inside the lines and as you point out, they pretty much have to go through the front door when raising revenue and face the glory or blame for their decisions. It's the backend of fees levied through a less formal process and often not directly by entities where the only option is "voting with your feet" that are basically a house of mirrors.
