Win % of Black QB's WSJ

"The one thing no one is discussing: They're both black."

....because who gives a flying f*ck??? .... The one thing EVERYONE'S discussing: They're both great quarterbacks.

Interesting article but it came off a little weird to me...

I found the 31 % higher win percentage amazing. I think that the NFL is different because you need to get your playmakers in space. Look at what the Vikings did to Vick the other night. Pocket passers win in the NFL. Running QB's in the NFL get killed.

I would have thought that with the push for Black Coaches in the college ranks, they would have published the winning percentage of Black D-1 Coaches. That would be far more interesting than the "Black QB" win percentage.

Has anyone done that study?

I thought it wasn't and isn't supposed to be about color of skin. Why does this crap always come up?

The article came out too late for Brewster!

The number of black quarterbacks is swelling because college teams increasingly see the upside of keeping them at their lifelong position and not switching them to receiver, defensive back or someplace else—where they're destined to touch the ball less. Beyond the ancient bias that once existed over whether blacks had the leadership qualities to play quarterback, there also was and still is a legitimate debate over how to best use a skilled athlete.

"It's not prejudice all the time; it's not racism all the time," said Mr. Moon, who first noticed Mr. Newton's talent as a high schooler, when he coached him at a clinic. "But coaches are now seeing that you want an athletic quarterback who handles the football every play, because it gives you such of a threat."

Thread to get interesting in 3, 2, 1 ...

Yea the vikings' pocket passer killed Vick.

'This Crap' came up because of a 31% winning percentage difference. You dont think that's noteworthy? I think that stat would have been noteworthy whether it was about left handed quarterbacks, short quarterbacks, or quarterbacks from west of the Mississippi.

And some would say the reason is that outstanding minorities start, but teams w/a mediocre QB? He'll be overwhelmingly white. I'm not saying it just guessing that some would.

With having Shortell committed, i'm more interested in the statistical break down of Ginger QBs.

Because it really still is, just not on the surface. People are slow to shange.

Pro and college games are completely different, but I think Newton has a good chance of success at the next level because he throws a really nice ball.

The main difference in the game is on defense. Newton is as big (or bigger) and as fast (or faster) than most college LBs. That changes quite a bit in the pros, where he'll be as big as a lot of LBs, but won't be able to run them over (or around them) the way he has done at Auburn.
