Lots of pro teams do this all the time. Different back for 3rd down. Yes, you can occasionally hand it off to that back. One issue - If RB 'A' only plays on running plays, and RB 'B" only plays on passing plays, you are basically telling the defense what you're going to do.
So, if Williams is the best at pass pro, they have to give him a few carries or you're showing your hand to the defense whenever Williams comes into the game.
and - some might say - this offense is already too predictable. don't need to give the defense any more help.
You can potentially get around this by utilizing play-action, which we do, but also plays like draws and screens. One issue - If RB 'A' only plays on running plays, and RB 'B" only plays on passing plays, you are basically telling the defense what you're going to do.

He is a Redshirt SophomoreIs Cam Wiley redshirting, haven't seen him at all the last two games?
It wasn't intended to be an insult. So, you're going to nitpick because someone didn't know that the #7 running back was out for the season? Petty.
I don’t recall saying thatIt wasn't intended to be an insult.
?I don’t recall saying that
Think there was a TE screen once this year. You can potentially get around this by utilizing play-action, which we do, but also plays like draws and screens.
The latter ... have we run one the entire year?? I don't think Sanford knows what they are.
You quoted someone else but somehow my name was the talk bubble
Offenses get "spoiled" by relying on a single back of Mo's caliber.Really becoming less and less of a fan of depending on a single star RB, when they are such a fragile position. See the same thing with the Vikings and Dalvin Cook.
I think that goes both ways too.Offenses get "spoiled" by relying on a single back of Mo's caliber.
We all know what happens when you lose your RB for the season.
There's a lot of woulda, coulda. If they had cut down on the number of plays, Mo could still be playing. If they had cut the number of carries for Mo, the other backs can gain experience, etc...
If I have to hear Beth Mowins or anyone go on about that stupid Bucko vs. Bucky thing again I will throw up. Fleck needs to let that BS go and leave the kid alone.I believe it's now "Bucko" because it was awkward to have this guy playing for us...

Agree though, next man up...
I was pretty happy when she left Big Ten Network -- until I realized that with her at Fox they just assign her to all the lower tier B1G games they produce. If I have to hear Beth Mowins or anyone go on about that stupid Bucko vs. Bucky thing again I will throw up. fixedI really think the key is keeping these guys fresh. I hope Bryce keeps playing the 3rd down RB/blocker role (I think we'll use more wildcat and pass more), and I would spread the rest of the carries between Bucko, Camand Ky Thomas. Injuries aside, young RBs really lose a step when they take too many hits.
To be honest, 2020 was the first year in a while that the running game was not a two or three headed attack. Guessing that's Sanford?
Sounds like the players did it, and I think it is fun....If I have to hear Beth Mowins or anyone go on about that stupid Bucko vs. Bucky thing again I will throw up. Fleck needs to let that BS go and leave the kid alone.
No, don't like it. The Wisky mascot has always been Becky, not Bucky. Our guy is Bucky.Sounds like the players did it, and I think it is fun....
As long as he is not in the game any play we may want to run the ball I am good with it.I would be happy to see Bryce Williams get the starting nod. Call me crazy.
I think I recall seeing a tunnel screen ran sometime this year -- could be wrongYou can potentially get around this by utilizing play-action, which we do, but also plays like draws and screens.

Got to give him credit. He actually knew the name of the #7 running back. So, you're going to nitpick because someone didn't know that the #7 running back was out for the season? Petty.
Me, too.I would like to put in my vote (which means nothing!) for a lot more Ky Thomas. We only saw him once and he looked great but never saw him again. He deserves to be in the mix a lot more - I like what I saw!!
