Will you live to see another conference title?
I think your question is open to interpretation. “Win another Big Ten title in your lifetime”? Since 89.3% of people on gopher hole we’re not alive for the last title it would be impossible to win another in their lifetime.
But to answer your question.... Yes. Any other answer would mean I wasted 50 years believing.
Your statement of not being alive for the Twins 92 championship is a prime example of why Minnesota sports fans are the most beleaguered.
No championships for:
Gophers football (since 61)
Vikings
Wild
Northstars
Timberwolves
Twins (since 92)
It is tough being a Minnesota sports fan.
The Gophers haven’t won a Big Ten Title in my lifetime thus far and likely won’t ever. I’m not happy about this situation, but can accept it. The closest we’ve come in my 46 years was 2003. We have honestly not come close in any other season.
Is your birthday in July? [emoji6]The Gophers have won big ten championships before. So regardless of when you were born, we would be winning another one.
I wasn't alive when the Twins won the World Series (I was born in 92), but I hope they win another one during my lifetime.
We were an OT loss to Wisky away from a trip to Pasadena in 1999.
see another? I'm 47 and I've never seen one; hell THIRD IS THE BEST WE'VE DONE IN MY LIFETIME!! (3 times; 2 of the 3 happened when I was still worried about girl germs '73 and '76)
My thing is simply this: if Wisconsin and Iowa are physically capable of winning the Big Ten, then Minnesota must be physically capable of doing it too.
Laws of physics simply dictate that it must be possible.
and I suspect there are people at the U of M who, for their own reasons, do not want to see the U become a "football school," and are working behind the scenes to prevent that from happening.
It's coaching, guys. That's just the fact of it, that can't be bypassed, hand-waived, or negotiated with. You have to hit the coaching lottery.
Iowa hit the coaching lottery with Hayden Fry. He hired Ferentz and installed him as the new head coach too. So Iowa has been the Fry program since the 80's.
Wisconsin hit the coaching lottery with Barry Alvarez. Wisc has been the Alvarez program since the 90's.
We have not hit the coaching lottery. At least not in some time. One could probably argue that if Mason had just been left to do his thing all this time ... well maybe we don't want to go there. But anyway, you look at schools like Illinois, Purdue, Indiana. And yes, Minnesota.
ANY of them are perfectly capable of doing what Iowa or Wisconsin have done. It isn't magic. It's landing the perfect head coach, and then hanging onto him!
