No, but that doesn't mean that we should berate and belittle the next coach, or start him with a less-than-fair shot at gaining our respect and fanaticism. Anything less is a disservice to the program.

Very true. I'm a huge Leach supporter (dur), but I have zero intentions of dogging on our new HC, no matter who (I'll even give Trestman the support he probably doesn't deserve).

Maturi and Bruinicks, on the other hand.. I'll go off on then as soon as they announce that the new head coach of the Minnesota Golden Gophers is not Leach. And I'm fully expecting as such.

I agree that it's very doubtful Maturi will hire a better coach than Leach. That said, like I mentioned in another thread, if you've done your due diligence in researching Leach and a lot of people in the profession tell you to stay away from him, do you still hire him? There's a reason he's not being considered at Colorado and why Miami isn't beating down his door - even though he is also after that job as well. He really wants this job because he knows that for one reason or another it's going to be really tough for him to get a job. Still, he'll probably get a good job and do well, but I think he'd be our coach right now if the search process didn't reveal more red flags than we know about.

Chances are, the reason why the other programs aren't hiring him right now is because they are all PC nutless wonders.

But, say that they are correct in their research and there are other red flags (who DOESN'T have them?).. Why does everyone assume Leach is incapable of learning from past mistakes?

I'm not going to apologize unless I'm proven wrong. Until then, the facts are overwhelmingly in support of Leach. Proven winner. Football genius. 10 years as HC, 10 bowl games. Knocked off countless ranked teams, including #1 ranked Texas. Graduation rate increased when he took over at Tech.

The two 'knocks' on him? Locked James in a electric shed (disproven, BTW, and there was no 'shed') and his lawsuit against Tech because they didn't want to pay him.

Yeah, I'll take the bad with the success he's had.

Maturi will make a hire better than Leach. The football resume will not be quite as good, but the football resume will still be solid. And the candidate they end up getting will not be someone the athletics dept considerings a time bomb just waiting to explode.
