purdue = hummel. a class kid who is a legitimate ball player. painter is a good and respectful coach.

msu = draymond green. a class kid who is a legitimate ball player. tom izzo is a good and respectful coach.

indiana = verdell jones, matt roth, tom pritchard. a few class kids who walked into a *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#ty situation at indiana and stuck it out for four years. tom crean....well he is tom crean. you can take him in doses.

ohio state = william buford. a class kid who is a high quality ball player. thad matta is a good and usually respectful coach.



wisconsin = the jordan taylor, ben brust, et. al flop fest, holding fest, tugging fest, dive fest, and an ugly offensive scheme that is disrespectful to the beautiful game of basketball fest. oh that and their whiney, ugly ass, grinch-twin coach who looks like he will kill the official's kids if he doesn't get all the calls his way.


that is why you root for purdue, msu, indiana and ohio state of the big ten conference. and not for an abomination to the game of basketball like becky badger. because purdue, msu, indiana and ohio state deserve it and they play basketball the right way. becky badger does not. what they play is not basketball. it is a basically a 40 minute game of "keep away" and pseudo-tackle football. and it is craptastic to watch it be allowed by officials almost every season since grinchy bo ryan became coach of the skunks in a popcorn box.

I said this on another thread, but I didn't feel this way about the Badgers when Dick Bennett was the coach. He was a great and respectful coach. His teams played hard, and even though they were extremely low scoring like Bo's team, their team defense was spectacular. If you ever wanted to coach kids to play defense, check out Bennett's UWGB teams. Ridiculous.

I don't like Purdue...never have, never will. Indiana died for me when Bobby Knight left. I love Michigan St....Tom Izzo is the a ball coach and his teams play. Michigan. tOSU and Ill are non-starters for me...can't root for them no matter what. Iowa smells bad. PSU, NE and NW are blah in BB...so who cares. Sconnie is unwatchable and I despise their coach.

Obviously Wisconsin has had better post-season success than Minnesota since Tubby took over, but the series is tied up 3-3 in the regular season in the past four years.

I always love how people choose arbitrary history when citing a stat. Like "past four years" in this case. Usually the reason is that going back just a tad farther, or in some cases not quite as far, makes their argument fall apart.

Minnesota fans hate Bo cause he's owned them for 11 years. If we include the years before Tubby, I don't know where it would be. But, I can't remember losing to a Monson team - maybe they did. So I'd guess it would be in the range of 14 to 16 wins for Bo, 3 or 4 for Monson/Tubby. Either way, you hate those that own you. That's they point here.

Hate to bring hockey into this conversation, but from my perspective, both the Badger basketball and Badger hockey teams employ what can be termed a "defensive" style to the game (in hockey, it's been often referred to as "clutch and grab" although I actually see more clutching and grabbing by the Badger hoopsters). I attribute it to not being able to recruit top flight recruits in either sport. So what we get are pure examples of "system" teams. They play their system and it works for them. Nothing wrong with it as they have been doing this in both sports for years and both teams have been successful as a result. It's an example of smart coaching.

Having said all that, it's hardly a thing of beauty to watch. Some of the national media have taken the concept of "winning" and decided that if you win, it's automatically got to be because of great athleticism and talent (witness Stephen Bardo's whole "Berggren is one of the best athletes in the nation" nonsense from earlier in the year.) Never have seen the Badgers in either sport and said "wow are they great." Instead, I say "they're fundamentally sound", which they are. The interesting thing is I find myself saying the same thing about both teams quite a bit. It's just the way things are done in Madtown. Like I said, it works for them. But I doubt that you'll see many fans around the country that aren't Badger fans clamoring to see more of either team.

Your logic is horrible. In this thread, everywhere, people have said that they respect Tom Izzo - a lot, it appears. But Tom Izzo has totally kicked the Gophers' ass - much worse than Bo Ryan ever did. Yet people here seem to love Tom Izzo but hate Bo Ryan. Thus, your logic stinks. Typical Wisconsin big-headed gloater.
