I love the thought that our backup qb/wr might be all world at some point. Dreamers dream big things. But, I have no proof of greatness yet. So, why am I supposed to be concerned as a fan that one guy MIGHT be all world. The 'might's' and the 'should's' and the 'would have's' do not hold up to rigorous scrutiny because there is a lack of supporting evidence. Is it possible that the Gopher coaches will actually use MG only as he develops his potential and not until then? I don't think we will see him more than 8 snaps a game until he proves he can catch the ball and gain yardage. I am predicting that the number of plays he recieves will drop as the season progresses. First the starting recieving corps is going to pick up better yards per catch and catch more thrown their way. Is MG more of a situational player/hybred player or an every down wide receiver? Frankly, I don't see him as an every down wide reciever for quite some time.

MG as a receiver

I'm in complete agreement. He's obviously a v good athlete, but he doesn't look comfortable as a receiver, doesn't run routes that will create separation. I suspect he has good hands but his receiving talent/receiving use is situational only. I love Brewster's optimism, but his comments strike me as clearly over the top intended to give a kid who wants to be (and thinks he should be) QB a few strokes.

Brewster likes to hype players in the media. I think Gray deserves more than one game before we conclude he cannot play receiver. Even if he can't it's a worthy experiment as long as it isn't costing us games. The fact of the matter is Gray isn't the type of guy you sit.

I think we're all jumping the gun a bit. Give him a few games to learn the position at this level before you pass judgement.

I was talking about this with some friends after the MTSU game. What did Gray have? One ball thrown his way and one catch?

I'm hoping he is a part of the game plan that we haven't seen yet. Why show your hand if you don't have to? If he's going to do anything as a WR--- I think we'll finally see it against USC in week 3, a game on the national stage that we'll need to pull out all our arsenal if we're going to win.

Too much to school him on prior to USC. I would think the current starters would be given more tools to use for USC than a player under development. As the season progresses, the starters will be getting more work from the coaches and the 2nds will get more situational roles. The 3rd string will get fewer reps as the season progresses unless they are showing more ability in game situations and pushing to move up in rank. I think Weber used the 80/20 rule with recievers last year and will follow suit later this year. 20% will provide 80% of production. Right now, Weber will throw more balanced distribution to each reciever as the pecking order has not been established in production. I think 2 catches from McKnight outweigh 1 catch from MG. I hate to think that that ratio will not change much. Hope it does. I would like to see if Gray can achieve all world status.
