Why rip on Weber

Ballard, what you have written has now made everyone in the room a little bit dumber

i wish someone would mention that cupito also had maroney, barber, russell and pinnix. not to mention some really good offensive lines.

not that i think that the two are even comparable, but the fact is weber HAS done his job of getting the ball in to the hands of the gopher's best playmaker.

I'm a "diehard" Weber supporter, and I had Cupito in my QB slot as the all-decade Gopher Team. I have no idea if Weber is just medicore or a product of 3 offensive coordinators, no running game, and our worst o-line that I have seen as a Gopher fan. There is no way to place each quarterback in the same set of variables and watch them perform, so it is all opinions at this point. Either way I do know how Cupito handles himself with a o-line that gives him time, a couple of quality receivers of Payne and Ellerson, and a healthy running game which I would have on my all-decade team :).

Batman.... I spelled it out in my post :). Cupito is a product of the dedication to putting the best talent on the offensive side of the ball. I think he did a great job within that system.

I hope in a couple more years we aren't saying one side of the ball has all the talent. Right now Weber is a warrior, and I find it embarrassing that some gopher fans think he is terrible.

He's not terrible, he's inconsistent. He by his own admission, has missed more then his share of open receivers and he has thrown the ball up for grabs when he should have thrown it away.

HOWEVER, how much of the second problem has been caused by Weber getting his damn bell rung every time he goes back to throw, is certainly open to debate.

Hit the open guys, take-off when you get the chance and throw-it away when neither opportunity beckons.

That would be nice.

One other thing, if he keeps making his receivers go up and stretch-out to catch passes in the middle of the field he is going to get one of them killed.

Back to your regularly scheduled programing.

With a good balanced offense Weber might be very good. Unfortunately Minnesota does not have that. There might be a need for what Grey might bring, if not this year then next year. He has such unlimited potential. I think it depends not only on how Weber does but how the team performs from here on in. A 2-6 or 1-7 record in the big ten this year won't cut it.
