Why is this not more of a concern?

We have a whole new coaching staff that can serve as those fresh eyes. A staff that he has positive experiences with in the past and one in which he should have some trust.

The possible paths changed dramatically with the coaching change and it would call for another reassessment of which is the best path to follow.

Maybe it's as simple as that... but I doubt it. There are myriad other factors that affected Gabe's decision. You are assuming that a coaching change, even to one he would be familiar with, would be enough to change his mind about transferring. It clearly was not. None of us know what Gabe was thinking when he made his decision to go...
