Why is Dre Hollins so low on mock drafts?

I don't get it. It isn't like when Rodney was projected his freshman year has a lottery pick because of a couple of dunks. Dre was still pretty solid last year.

His TS% and eFG% were both up last year and his scoring is what got him noticed.

Too small to be a shooting guard at the next level, and doesn't possess NBA level PG skills. He could still get there in time.

He's short. That's why. I suspect that he'll end up as a Luke Ridnour clone in the Association, and that he'll make some late first-round team happy by giving good depth.

He's too short but he elevates well and releases at the top. I think he'll go late 2nd or not drafted but he will surprise.

+1

Unless Pitino can turn him into a true PG.
Four year player I would think. So good for us.His best chance in the NBA may be has a threepoint specialist. If you notice when he gets his feet set he is money.

I've seen him being drafted in the late first round to being undrafted in mock draft's. He needs to obviously develop his PG skills more(ballhandling, limiting his turnovers, developing a crossover/blow-by move, distributing the ball). One thing I've noticed with Dre over the two years he's been here is that he has good straight-line speed and good leaping ability, but he doesn't have great lateral movement. That causes him to struggle staying with his man on D sometimes, and it also limits him a little on offense by not being able to consistently get by his defender.

The good news is he has two more years to work on those things. He already burries NBA range, 3's on a regular basis and has no problem hitting step back 3's off the dribble. He also consistently steps up in big situations(Big Ten Tourny and NIT as a freshman, NCAA Tourny last year). He has plenty of things going for him to get drafted, and if he can improve his PG skills, I could see him being a first round pick.

he is a small off guard , does not have NBA 3 range, nor NBA pg skills or quicks. He does have a nice college game

If he could improve his ball handling he could sneak into the late first round

I guess I could buy the size thing, except for the fact that he was projected as a lotto pick for this past year's draft for a while.

He's got the range. He's too small to play the 2 and doesn't have the ball handling skills for the 1. If he improved his ball handling skills he could be a combo 1/2 like JJ Barea.

He stunk it up at Addidas Nation this summer and hence his stock dropped.

I probably write more about the NBA draft than anyone and I hate mock drafts before and durnig the season. Rodney Williams was projected as the #2 pick by one website after three college games and three years later he was still an undraftable player. Hollins is not coming out this year, so to even have him ranked is ridiculous. How about letting players earn their rep? That same website had Willie Warren and B.J. Mullens as their projected top pick going into the season a few years back. I love Andre more than anyone. I have said many times that he is the nicest player I have ever dealt with. I told the Gophers before that they were recruiting him that this was a player that they should go after because of his on and off the court skills. However, to worry about where a 6-1 guard who is not a true point guard is ranked before his junior season even starts is plain crazy.

I believe he was back from his study abroad in Italy for about a week before he attended this, which is probably why he didn't perform too well.

I think Austin has a more potential to be a pro than Dre. Fantastic overall game, but needs to improve his handle.

Great examples of why I never look at that website anymore.

I disagree.

Both guys are likely going to be second-rounders. At that point, having one stand-out skill will be more beneficial than a good overall skillset. Andre has his quickness and scoring ability that will pop for pro scouts. Austin has a nice game, but what's his stand-out NBA skill?

If you want a comp for Andre, think Daniel Gibson

agreed

I ilke Daniel Gibson, I was also thinking Eddie House. Basically a spark plug combo guard that could come in off the bench.

I disagree.

He has good straight ahead quickness like Mitch Ohnstad, but yes he hasn't shown great ability to move horizontally on defense..yet.

Austin will have to become a much better and consistent scorer to whiff the NBA. His defense is solid. He is weak though. He is a very nice college player.
